KENYA IN CANCER FIGHT

Each year Kenya is recording about 28000 new cases of cancer with about half of its patience dying.Hence Kenya is facing a burden of high demand for cancer treatments despite limited capacity in lign with diagnosis and screening processes that has posed health care policy challenges to the government.Increase in cancer patients has made the supply of cancer equipments , experts and facilities appear not to be effective in commensurate level.
Cancer has also had negative social impact such as isolation of the patient, negative health outcomes such as stroke, depression and anxiety amongst patients' close relatives.Economic impacts include financial losses ,reduction in productivity rate and decreased quality life style.
Legal and policy framework such as 2010 constitution , article 21(2) ,health act 2017 that provides right to access to health services and all health system levels.Others include ,cancer prevention and control act no.15 of 2012 and NCD that works with government .
The health ministry has put in place measures for cancer prevention and interventions such as access to cancer screening, affordable care, medicine ,health technologies, improve survivor ship care planning and promote cancer surveillance, research across the country.
Cancer management technologies and infrastructure include; mass scale used for data collection during clinical diagnosis and intergration daily workflow by providing attention to different organization in cancer fight.There is also use of media and website to help curb cancer.
UHC under NHIF has provided timely quality medical insurance package for cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, palliative care and survivorship in line with the defined pillars.
