This week we paid a courtesy call to HelpageInternatinal.

Did you know that Kenyans over 60 are the fastest-growing population in Kenya at 2.7 million; with the majority being female.

The population growth is due to wealth, better health, improved nutrition, and advanced technology in treatment, early intervention, and cure of diseases that have increased life expectancy.

Unfortunately, more than half of this population live in absolute poverty and continue to face age discrimination including gender-based violence.

Moral of the story, we're all ageing. We need to prepare our old age beds.

Tuesday this week was a good day.

I attended the The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications Gender Desk workshop with colleagues in the media, civil society, government and academia.

Apart from sharing the journey, opportunities and challenges of establishing a gender desk, I moderated a panel on the relevance of gender desks in newsrooms.

I'm so excited to be involved in this project, that seeks to narrow gender gap with and through the media.
