Why Does Generation X Shy Away from Money Conversations?

Money – a topic often whispered about, yet seldom discussed openly. If you're part of Generation X, you might have noticed a certain hesitancy around money conversations.

🤐 The Unspoken Taboo

Many of us in Generation X were raised in an era where discussing personal finances was seen as impolite. We were taught to keep our financial matters private, leading to a culture of silence, and if you did share it was coming from a lack or scarcity mindset.

🙈 Fear of Comparison

The comparison game is real. Sharing financial details might lead to unnecessary comparisons and judgments. Our generation tends to value privacy, fearing that revealing financial information might put us in a vulnerable position.

🏦 Generational Money Blocks

Many of us witnessed the financial struggles of our parents, leading to a sense of insecurity. This experience shaped our attitude towards money, making us more cautious and guarded. Most of past generations are set in the old mindset. The “money doesn’t grow on trees” era

It's time to rewrite the narrative. We can break the cycle of money silence by healing the relationship we have with money. Talking about finances doesn't mean bragging or comparing – it means learning, supporting, and growing together.

Tell me if you are like me?

I listened to what I was taught
That I needed a good job to be successful

But I also wanted flexibility to be there for my kids
It was also important to me to have time to volunteer in my kids classroom
It was up to me to be there for sick days, snow days, school holidays
Running them to activities
Most moms take these lower paying jobs to have this flexibility
These lower paying jobs don’t come a pension or retirement plan
Most often they don’t offer benefits either

I was working hard, putting in the hours
It was an hourly job, meaning I was trading time for money
Any hours not traded meant no money

When the pandemic had me on unemployment
I had this realization that the moment I was not working
I had no income

Here are some facts…if I waited to retire at the age of 65
The day I retire, income stopped
The job did not offer any pension

The lower paying job didn’t give room for savings either

So I looked it up
Where I live the government says IF I contributed enough
In my years of employment I would received
THE monthly MAXIMUM of $1305.57
But the average pension paid is $760.07
With the addition of Old Age Security of $698.60

So an AVERAGE total monthly income of $1458.67
How do you even live on that amount let alone
The FREEDOM to live the life you have been dreaming of
While working day after day, month after month, year after year

Right now in my business I can earn $3540 for ONE SALE
This is only with my current rank
This gives me 14 years to grow my business at which point
I will be at a top rank and earning a possible $7080 for the same singular sale
Not to mention any bonus or legacy income

So how can I NOT have full faith in working for myself
The alternative is no longer acceptable to me

THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I STARTED MY ONLINE BUSINESS

**only listen to the opinion of people that have the life I want**

having the support of those around me makes things easier

but those that don’t see or support my vision and they are not having the success or living a life that I would trade places with shouldn’t hold space in my decisions

**that being consistent is more important then being perfect**

I struggle with this one, needing the graphic to look just right or picking a perfect song instead of showing up as myself

**I don't need to know everything to start but share as I grow**

Needing to realize that I am continually evolving an to just show up with what I have learned so far

**being self responsible to get the results but invest in mentors**

the only one I need to hold accountable is myself, investing in mentors helps to motivate but in the end it’s up to me to get results

**show up as myself to inspire yesterdays version of me**

as much as I want to inspire others around me, the most important person I need to inspire is yesterdays version of myself, my growth may then inspire others

**get myself in the room with the people getting results**

with the power of manifestation, getting into proximity to those that are getting the results I want will help to get me there myself, hear it, see it and feel it until it is mine

a few things to share about me

I live in Ontario Canada
I grew up moving alot and struggled with fitting in, having very low self esteem

I can be very quiet and shy when you first meet me but social once I'm comfortable

Coming from a broken home, I craved stability, structure and rules

Since starting my personal growth journey
I'm shifting from a lack mindset
to gratitude and healing

I have so many passions that I love...

spending time with my family
especially my grandsons

traveling with my husband

using my artistic side to do watercolour, crafting items and doing graphic design

recently getting into spirituality and
learning human design

mostly the FREEDOM to do all these things

As my husband and I built our family
we struggled with our money mindset

We worked jobs to provide for our family, trying to also provide balance to home and be present in our kids lives

During the pandemic, I realized that the career I had been in for 25 years had no job security, no retirement package
working an hourly wage meant loss of income when those hours stopped



When I realized that the only way
to secure my future was to take things
into my own hands

I could continue to stay in an employee
mindset or I could look for something
to build for myself

Then I found a platform to learn all the skills I need to create an online business
Partnered with an amazing company with the most incredible compensation plan and a community of soul aligned friends

I just did something that made me nauseous

Scared me and got me teary eyed

It’s stepping out of my comfort zone

But this step is needed

I haven’t been showing up lately, not in the way I want too

I let my fear of showing up hold me back from saying yes to a Company Convention in Vegas

I let myself hold me back

Then I watched as others from our community had the most amazing experience and expansion and I can tell you I felt ALL THE FOMO!!!!

They met leaders, mentors and millionaires in our space

Each photo, reel, live they posted, made me realize I made the biggest mistake

BUT, This past weekend I said yes to another DBLL retreat

Reconnecting with some of our community ignited the flame within me

It also made me reflect…

I haven’t been treating by business like it deserves

To be honest, it’s been that way for a while and my business was sitting there waiting for me

It’s not the business, it was me getting in the way

Which brings me to today,

It’s scary

It’s scary to even post this

the “What if’s” creep in

Fear of failure

I also have gratitude

It’s here

The announcement I was talking about

Two years ago
I attended an online 2 day event that changed my life

A community that inspired me to take my life into my own hands
I was struggling
I was no longer fulfilled in my career
I was having serious doubts as to what my future would look like

continuing to work for an hourly wage
