Over 70 Hospitalized After Consuming Contaminated Mursik

More than 70 people from Kabianga and Masaita villages were admitted to Londiani Sub-County Hospital after consuming mursik at a church graduation ceremony. Among the victims were 12 children, some severely affected and put on drips due to extreme dehydration.

The milk, purchased from a local vendor, caused attendees to experience severe vomiting and diarrhoea shortly after consumption. The vendor has since gone into hiding as investigations by police and health authorities are underway.

Doctors report that the victims’ conditions are gradually improving. Residents are urged to exercise caution when consuming food or drinks at public events.

Mursik, a fermented milk drink, is a cultural delicacy among the Kalenjin people, but proper handling and hygiene are critical to its safety.
