Pres. William Ruto in his message describes Kiptum as a star and arguably one of the finest sportsmen in the world. He celebrates him for his mental strength and discipline, which ensured that he left an extraordinary mark on the globe.

Mama Rachel Ruto on her part describes Kiptum as a symbol of resilience, hard work, and the indomitable spirit of the Kenyan people.

Former Prime minister Raila Odinga expressed his deepest condolences, indicating that the country has lost a true hero.

Globally, the Pres. of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, has also expressed his condolences on behalf of World Athletics, describing Kiptum as an incredible athlete.

Kelvin Kiptum, a shining star of Kenya's athletics and the world marathon record holder, dies at a young-age of 24-years following a tragic road accident on the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine Road.

Kiptum died on the spot together with his Rwandese coach, Gervais Hakizimina.

His death comes six days after the ratification of his world record that he broke in Chicago and was scheduled to attempt running the Rotterdam marathon in under two hours.
