The cost of corruption.

Let me jog your memory abit.

The jubilee government in it's flagship project during its first term had a laptop for all learners in grade one project. The project was estimated to cost around 75 billion Kenyan shillings!

And yes, as per the image below the projects kicked off. But the question is, how many know learners in public primary schools that got this laptops?

Here is the thing, the guys in the education sector knew that for CBC to be successfully rolled out, each learner in Kenya from grade 1 upwards required a tablet, which necessitated the launch of this programme.

It was rolled out, only to abort halfway. The long-term effect of this this is that the vast majority of Kenyan learners will be left behind as the globe is advancing and moving from real office jobs to flexible remote jobs, the lot that is taught digital literacy in theory because someone somewhere pocketed the billions meant for this project will have a tough time playing catch up.

We would want to justify the handouts and the favours received from the politicians as your time to eat or lack has befallen you, but the effects are long term.

This is just but one of the flopped projects. If we look at the current regime, the loans they are borrowing, the proof of the money on the ground, there is nothing to show. Yet, we want to find a way to justify and make peace with the donations and handouts. If you don't see that money as what it is, proceeds of corruption, diverted resources meant to benefit the children on this nation then you have a problem.

It's not our politicians that are the issue, Kenyans are the issue. We are enablers of corruption. And for as long as it's benefiting you, it's not that evil........

Anyway, eat, enjoy, and let no hint of guilt hit you since it's it's your time.

Good morning.

The decision on when to move a child from one school to another isn't an easy one.

Every parent's desire is that the first school they enroll their little one would be a joyous journey all through to the highest grade in that level.

This however is not always the case. There are instances when circumstances will force a transfer. The most common circumstances are either a parents transfer from place of work, or a child persistent complains of bullying or just a change of attitude towards the school.

Whereas the parents transfer one is automatic and the move is necessary, the others are either not taken serious or it proves hard for a parent to know when to actually move the learner.

A change in interest in the school or a complaint over bullying shouldn't be ignored. In some instances this incidences have proven fatal when children will opt for su***de when their needs are ignored.

A keen attention and interest on the issues the child is raising might be the first way of establishing whether their need for transfer is genuine or it's just out of peer pressure.

A close working with the teacher is also encouraged as the teacher spends more time with the children especially when schools are in session and the teacher will be the first to notice a change in a child's behaviour.

Whereas not every demand for a transfer should be granted, every request for such should be taken seriously and investigated and the learner taken through why a no is the answer given or a yes is the answer given.

This way, the child is helped to change their attitude towards the school if that is what is needed, to develop coping mechanisms if that is what is needed or even to transition smoothly to the next school if a transfer is what is agreed upon.

Learning shouldn't be traumatising and school shouldn't be a cause for nightmares to a learner. It's a journey that learners, parents and teachers ought to walk together to achieve best learning experiences and outcomes.

There are hobbies we would never have been aware of possessing growing up.
The backgrounds we came from, had not much to offer and the exposure we got afforded us just a few common hobbies.

We all could sing, cycle, read or write, and dance, some would draw, pencil art though all these at the basic level.

As we grew and got further exposure,we've embraced in shock some expensive hobbies that lay hidden in us all this years.

For instance am smitten by a great art piece, I will stand beside walls and gaze at a piece of art, allowing myself to get lost into it, trying to figure out what the artists had in mind as they put the piece together.

And just like any piece of art, interpretation varies from one person to the other, the general meaning will be common to all, but when we allow our minds to dive deep into the web the art is made of, each of us will notice a flicker that speaks a different thing from the other.

And for this reason, I believe life is a piece of art. Each of us makes out of it, whatever we see. Some out of fear of being and standing out, spend their entire being aping and copy pasting the other person's being. Life can't be more miserable than this.

Take your colours and paint brush, brush, paint draw, make life whatever image the brush and the paint births.

The master designer, never ran out of ideas, and I don't believe He copy pasted any, we are all a unique pattern of design! Tune in, and paint out whatever artwork your life is!

Life is beautiful!

Hello,

Let me ask you a question.

Are you healed from the trauma that you've gone through or you are carrying it around and bleeding on people who did you no harm?

Are you working on yourself or you are passing it down to the generations that come after you?

The best gift we can give our children is our healed version. Only then shall we be sure that the generations that come after us will have a better story than ours.

Put in the work, identify the traumas and commit to breaking free of their hold.

You don't necessarily need a therapist for this. You know yourself better, you can pick out the patterns in your life, you can honestly have a conversation with yourself and ask yourself why you do the things you do.

Healing starts when we stop running from who we are and look at the naked frame of who we are and have a soul deep conversation and the rest flows easy.

If you need a therapist, it a worthwhile investment. For you and those that come after you.

Wishing you a reflective weekend!

It's always work in progress be kind to yourself and appreciate your journey.

I responded to a question with "I am a writer today" and this response shook me.

Have you ever met imposter syndrome dressed so elegantly and seated meticulously sipping coffee in a five star hotel and doubted that that was what it was?!

My writing for years was a thing I wished I would do under the bed and consume it from there without having to show anyone.

Untill I started managing high profile social media platforms and I knew I had to win or imposter syndrome would carry the day.

I remember one particular article I wrote, I forwarded it to my then boss and his response was excellent! I had to call and confirm that he had indeed read the article and that excellent 👌 was the actual feedback he intended to give!

Wow! That for me was a turn around. I gathered so much confidence from then on, and though, the syndrome will want to show up and carry the day,the truth is I have grown. Ofcourse that excellent came after so many times of graciously taking corrections and accepting to be guided and acknowledging I didn't know a thing!

I have managed social media platforms for brands and the brand owners have asked if they can print out some of the writeups I make and archive it for the future. I hope that when they eventually do this, they will be gracious enough to acknowledge the source of the writings.

This is not me trying to blow my own trumpet, but I allow myself to pause and bask in the glory once in a while and it's a great feeling.

This one is meant to point out how a positive feedback instilled confidence and belief in my writing and how from then on I have commited to perfecting this art, to the extent I can confidently say without fear that "I am a writer!" God, may the glory be back unto you, even as I hope that one day you will direct my heart to the writing you want me to bless the world with.

Don't hold back that positive comment, it might be all a person needs to gather their courage and fun up that fire in the them.
Yes, I am a writer!

THE FUTURE IS HERE
Most of us grew up to parents who would get home on time to watch news or would carry their radio to the bedroom to follow up on News or one of their favourite late night programs.

This however is a thing the children we are raising might not relate with. With advancement in technology and the chase after the bag, very few of us have time to watch news or even listen to the radio.

The broadcast scene has also changed over time, with media owners coming up with ways to ensure revenue streams through despite the low listenership. With introduction of gambling products on both radio and tv, most people have fully switched from these traditional mass media channels to the modern on hand sources of news and entertainment.

If you are a business person looking for an avenue to advertise your business, this is the wakeup call you’ve been waiting for. If you are still doing your adverts on the traditional media forms, you might be reaching just a slight part of your clients and it’s time to refocus and gear up your advertisement to the right channels for better returns.

I have said over and over that if your business isn’t on the online space, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. Its one thing to have your business on the online space and it’s another thing to have it up vibrant, with timely and relevant information.

With the rise in celebrities many brands are using celebs as their key mode of online marketing. It’s a good attempt but has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantages you know them since you did a research before deciding to go for a particular celeb. The disadvantages are numerous. For now, I will just mention two. One not everyone is liked by everyone, linking your brand with a celeb locks that brand to just the people who love that celeb. Two, we’ve seen cases where particular celebs will be associated with scandals and brands will sink with their beloved celebs in case of such an incident.

I’m not saying celebrity advertising is wrong, but before you decide on a particular celeb take time to know them and know if their values align with your brand values. Also take time to fill them up with information about your brand so that they can make a good representation of your brand.

That said, I prefer brands standing on their own.

Give your brand a voice and a face of its own. Either be its face or lets it’s packaging and branding be its face. I have always said, I know Peter Marangi, am sure we all know him. We all know he was advertising a particular paint, the question is, how many of us know the name of that paint?

Ponder over that.

Good morning.

3 or 4 years?
This is a question that many parents are unable to decide on. What's the right age for a child to enroll to school.

Most prefer 3, others work with 4 years. The playgroup class or Kindergarten 1 as we call it at Highlands Group of schools starts at 3 years of age. It is a very important transition phase for any child.

At this class, they are helped to adjust slowly to the new environment that school is. They are introduced to learning and an eagerness is built into them, and by the time they are getting to Kindergarten 2 or PP1, they have fully settled into school. Made new friends, built a rapport with their teachers and confidently perfected their toileting, speech, settling down and socialization.

Kindergarten 2 starts at 4 years old and mostly if you enroll your learner at 4years old, they will be placed in this class. This means, they will have a hard time catching up with those who started school at 3yrs and who have succeeded in settling into school by now.

It's therefore advisable to enroll your child at 3 years. Given their age, most have it rough settling in as their immunity is shaken by the new environment, new actives and probably waking up early and school routine.

It's therefore advised to have your child's Vit A intake at per, fruits intake increased and any other supplement that you give them to boost their immunity.

With time, their education journey becomes their most favourite activity and they look forward to school even in holiday seasons.

We give our best in ensuring the little ones settle into school easily and that school becomes their favourite place, since they spend much of their days in school.
