After two days of traversing all 12 sub-counties of Mandera, we now have a clear picture of the devastating drought situation facing the people of Mandera.
Our assessment covered Kutulo, Elwak, Ashabito, Rhamu, Arabia, Khalalio, Mandera East, Banisa, Kiliwehiri, Takaba and Dandu.
Throughout our visits, we distributed relief, delivering food, non-food assistance and emergency water support to cushion affected households as immediate needs are addressed.
Key takeaways from the ground show that while immediate needs are critical, long-term solutions are required, including sustainable water systems, drought-resilient livelihoods, and strengthened food security measures.
I will now return with a comprehensive report to the Steering Committee on Drought Response, to inform lasting, sustainable solutions, not just for North Eastern, but for drought-affected regions across the country.
A big thank you to my brothers Hon. Abdul Ebrahim Haro (Mandera South), Hon. Maj. (Rtd.) Bashir Abdullaih (Mandera North), Hon. Hon Hussein Weytan. (Mandera East), all our National Government Coordinators led by the various DCCs and the leaders from the county government.
