Are you tired of mockery,being despised.Trust in the Lord go silence your critics.
1 SAMUEL 1:1 – 2:10

The above story carries a lot of memories of what all of us agree that man’s extremity ends up being God’s possibility.

We are told of a man known as El-ka’-nah who was a son of Elihu the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph an Ephrathite.

Elkanah was a polygamist (had married 2 wives). Hanna and Peninah. It is explicitly recoded that Peninnah had children but Hannah had none. It is not because Hannah was barren but the LORD had closed her womb.

The issue of not having children became a weapon of scorn to be used by Peninah against Hannah.

In verse 7 we are told that year after year Hannah wept before God that she could not eat why? Peninah was the source of the tears of Hannah. I can imagine what this lady went through. In a normal circumstance, she had been told of how she is useless, just good for nothing. Filling up toilets and wasting resources. But one thing that might have made Hannah strong is that she found solace in God.In the bitterness of soul, Hannah prayed to God and wept. It means that the only person Hannah knew understands what she was going through was God. Not even her husband could understand

Verse 11 depicts a conviction of a person in sorrow till she makes a vow before God.

The following characteristics were seen in Hannah and we too need to learn them.

1. Hannah chose to be silent and not to dwell on the negative words of the enemy. She decided as long as my God lives, l will not raise my mouth against my enemy instead l will tell it to God. When your enemy raises against you with words to provoke you, don’t answer back instead give it to the LORD. Don’t stoop too low (in the flesh) to answer your enemy. Be still and silent to see the deliverance of God. Remember flesh and blood is their territory and you can’t win the war in their territory. Our territory is spiritual. Hanna decided that “l will not be pulled down in the flesh to engage them, because two wrongs don’t make a right. Instead, l will keep quiet and look like a fool but l will fight on my knees.

2. Everyone needs a Peninah in life to grow. The more Peninah provoked Hannah, the more she cried to God. Were it not for Penninah to speak to Hannah what she did, she would be in her comfort zone. After all, she was loved by the husband Elkanah. He provided all she needed but thank God that Peninah was there to put Hannah on toes of prayer. Don’t accept the comfort of men/human beings because it is limited (not permanent) only accept the comfort of God for it is permanent and everlasting ( some trust in chariots but we trust in God our redeemer). Hannah refused to accept the comfort of Elkana. Even when Elkanah said that he was more than ten sons, Hannah refused because that was not her comfort zone. She needed to prove her critic wrong by trusting in God for an answer. Remember she was not barren, but it was God who had closed up her womb and so, it was only Him who would open it to silence the enemy. If you don’t have a Peninah, don’t celebrate because she is on the way coming. This reminds me of the four lepers (2 Kings 7:3 – 20) who decided to go beyond the expected by going into the Syrian camp. “if we say we enter the city, and the famine is in the city, we will die and if we sit here we shall still die” They made up their minds. Famine was their Peninah.

Mordecai reminded Esther, you may choose to keep quiet but you are not safe. They decided to pray that God gives them the grace and ability to face the King. Haman had plotted evil against the Jews but they decided to fight Haman through prayer and seeking audience with the King. Haman was the Peninah for the Jews.

3. Don’t cry when people who are supposed to understand you fail and instead go on to accuse you just as Elkanah did to Hannah. He accused her for being drunk and therefore she needed to put away her wine. This was a direct accusation from somebody who needed to comfort this lady at a crucial time as this. Hannah said, l am not drunk. I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have just been pouring my heart to God. After sensing that Hannah was not joking, Elkanah had a change of heart and wished her well (verse 17). May God grant you all your wishes. God saw the motive of Hannah in her prayer and granted her request. What do you want from God? Do you believe he can do it? Have you given him the opportunity to take charge?

4. When your Samuel arrives, don’t give up praying. Continue with thanksgiving even to Peninah. When our enemy fights us in the flesh, we will fight back in the spirit.

I can’t imagine how Peninah felt after all the torture she had made Hannah go through and here she was now having a son. Some of us were busy crying for a job, we could let God have no peace until he blesses us.

When we got the job, child, opportunity, wife, husband, God became a past tense in our lives. We no longer pray as we used to pray. We no longer seek God’s opinion as we used to do. We have let the blessing of Samuel in our life replace God. Hannah reminded God in verse 25 “l am the woman that stood by thee here praying unto the LORD. For this child l prayed and the LORD hath given me my petition which l asked of him. Therefore l have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD”.

The first 8 verses of 1 Samuel Chapter 2 gives a strong testimony of what Hannah poured to God and had gone through.

She declared “my heart rejoiceth in the LORD; my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because l rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they are that stumbled are girded with strength. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased; so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. The LORD killeth and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low and lifteth up.

Reporting conflicts is not a walk in the park!!!

Expectations ran high as those who are ready to say their sentiments were taken out of context watch keenIy with a new edited scripts,
All all-in all iwant to congratulate the members of the fourth estate for their stellar ex*****on of the Lord's work as Gabriel Oguda aptly put it. Kudos to media houses from Citizen TV Kenya to CNN for being steadfast and consistent in the coverage of country-wide gen Z protest in KENYA.

Pro gvt bloggers who work for the highest bidders can't seem to come up with a sellable narrative to counter the media .At this juncture it wouldn’t be inaccurate to call the kenyan gvt a criminal syndicate. For heaven sake you expect the media to lay emphasis on property destroyed where life has been lost? That’s pure madness! Those turning their guns on the fourth pillar of gvt(media)do not understand that the media is all that Kenyans were left with after the executive merged with the legislature and judiciary to sing hallelujah hosanna to the president.

We only heard and saw the famous phrase checks and balances, separation of powers on viusasa. It's apparently clear that the gvt is out to dictate what the media reports to the public like you watch on your favorite channel KBC,trying to force the media to call protesters anarchist while the constitution of the land enshrine the right to picket within the confines of the law.. Its disturbing that the police treat the media as one entity with protestors hurdle them in one corner and teargas them and if the media dare say the protesters were largely peaceful,they start chanting the Jewish slogan crucify them. As a media personnel who was with protesters throughout witnessing their conduct,is it out of order if I authoritatively conclude that they were largely peaceful??

If the police shoots a journalist,a protester in cold blood within the full glare of rolling lenses should the media edit and insert accidental shooting to be the gvt darlings. Abducting citizens in broad daylight and when asked to shed light they force the media to call such incidence of violence arrest. Reporting conflicts is walking a tight rope. The Kenyan media has greatly covered looting of property by goons as well as stray protesters,let us not force them to limit their coverage to that. They have been biasely targeted,in humanely treated by law enforcers for doing their work .Let the gvt not a amplifier the plight of property vandalized at the expense of lives lost.

Give the media a break,they have done a good job😊
