Africa’s Economic Prospects
The New York Times recently had as its headlines: the future is African. I agree with New York Times. Africa can no longer be ignored. I fully expect Africa to be the pivotal continent in the world, given its economic prospects.

First, Africa’s population is projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 and by then one of four persons on earth will be African. With a rising middle class and projected consumer and business expenditures to reach $7 trillion, this is a formidable market of the future.

Protecting Biodiversity from Climate Change
Recent events clearly showed us how climate change threatens biodiversity worldwide

"To really be part of the plan and live in harmony with nature, as stated in the claim of this International Day for Biodiversity, we have to confront climate change head-on and be serious in changing its course." So says Edward Mukiibi, the president of Slow Food.

Understanding China’s Foreign Policy

We stay committed to an independent foreign policy of peace and to peaceful development. We remain firm in pursuing a strategy of opening up for mutual benefit. We call for an equal and orderly multipolar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and we are committed to promoting a new type of international relations.

We remain firm in opposing all hegemonic, high-handed, and bullying acts and in upholding international fairness and justice. China is ready to pursue the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative with other members of the international community so as to promote the common values of humanity, reform the global governance system, and build a community with a shared future for mankind.”

Climate Change: From Vision to Reality, Getting the Job Done

I want us to start in 2050, imagining what the world will look like if we do succeed in both limiting global warming to 1.5°C and protecting all peoples from climate change impacts.

Of course, it will be no utopia, and there is a potential extinction to contend with, but I will come back to that.
