Necessity is the mother of invention.

Adoption of simple circular economy technologies like upcycling of PET bottles to make mats and gift bags goes along way in curbing plastic leakage and creating jobs as well.

Mazingira Yetu Organisation quest of establishing a door to door single use plastic waste collection system has been boosted after a tete a tete meeting between Dominic Kagwi, Founder and CEO of Dawn to Glow International Ltd and Sam Dindi , Director Training and Community Mobilization at Mazingira Yetu organisation.

The partnership will involve directly working with waste pickers, aggregators, schools and households with a goal of having a seamless single use plastic waste collection system and the recyclable plastics being bought at the current market rates.

Partnerships and symbiosis in the solid waste value chain will incentivize everyone to play a role in ensuring waste is properly managed at source and their is direct benefit was disposed.

Flooding poses a major threat to clean drinking water. Floodwater contamination is a common risk, persisting for weeks or even months after the flood subsides. This contamination can stem from overflowing sewage systems overloaded by heavy rain, damaged infrastructure like sewer lines, or surface runoff carrying contaminants like waste and chemicals~Robert Wafula

Consumers and households need to be educated and become conscious on why they need to segregate their waste at source.
Once this is attained then circularity will be a way of life just like in Scandinavian countries, jobs will be created and zero waste will leak to landfills or dumpsites.

The restoration of River Ngong in Kibra back in 2019 had an infrastructure development component. The idea was to make it easier and safer for the residents of Kibra and Langata to cross the River.
Four years down the line we are witnessing as to how the foot bridges have literally saved lives from drowning during the internse rains.
Citizen assembly and democracy is vital when conceptualising a project in order for it to be accepted and have a meaningful impact in the long run.

Aarhus City have truly been able to restore River Aarhus with an elaborate plan anchored on Aarhus City master and climate change adaptation plan that lasted 30 years.
The plan has ensured physical planning is followed to the latter, City development is based on climate adaptation mechanisms that factor once in 50 year floods, grey water and storm are channeled to the river after treatment.
Nairobi River restoration program has a lot to learn in order for the restoration exercise to be successful in the long run.
