Penicillin is an antibiotic that has saved countless lives since it was discovered almost 100 years ago. However, for some people, the immune system flags penicillin (or related antibiotics) as harmful. So penicillin allergies are something to watch for. But a lot of people who think they are allergic to penicillin aren’t.
People who are allergic to penicillin, within minutes of taking it they develop:
1. Swelling- eyes, nose, mouth
2. Digestive problems - nausea
3. Respiratory problems - difficult in breathing
4. Skin reactions - itchness, redness
5. Anaphylaxis
