Margaret Wambui Kimani, 72, a widow, has never lost hope in looking after her eight grandchildren. She has done all sorts of menial jobs including work as a cleaner to make sure that her grandchildren have basic needs.
One of the grandchildren, Kimani, 22. who Wambui considers as her jewel was discovered to have cancer of the eye at the age of two. An operation was immediately done to help him, something that led to the removal of both eyes.
A few months later, his father was prosecuted for murder and jailed for 15 years. Kimani's mother died when his father was serving his jail term. Kimani had his grandmother as her everything.
Kiman was lucky to get a German sponsor who paid some of his school fees, but unfortunately, the sponsor died a year later, taking him and his grandmother back to the drawing board.
Wambui has had to withstand serious pain from her legs, something that has restricted her movement and her ability to help her grandchildren.
Kimani says he is at home now for lack of school fees. He is appealing to well wishers to help him finish his studies. He is also asking for help in recording his music so as to help him and his family financially.
