BREAKING: Akol Yam FM to resume broadcast soon

Akol Yam FM in Aweil town is set to get back on air soon after weeks of fair due to damage on its tower.
The station is working to do installation of a temporary broadcast tower, of 40 meters up from 72 meters.

According to the station management, the temporary tower will provide limited coverage, approximately 25 to 30 kilometers, compared to the previous 100-kilometer range.

“this is a temporary fix to address the information gap, and full coverage will be restored once enough funding is secured to reinstall the original mast,” management added.

It added that, although the tower is now in place, the station is still waiting for key equipment, including the Radio Frequency (RF) cable, feeders, and jumpers, which are being sourced from outside the country.

Engineer Thomas Freeman, who is leading the repairs, says the station could resume broadcasting within two days of receiving the missing items.

“If we get these missing items by now, we can broadcast even after two days. But since these are items are sourced from outside the country, it will require some few days for the station to be back on air,” said Thomas.

The restoration effort is being supported by The Radio Community through funds raised from advertisers and other program income.

Since the reinstallation began, community members have been frequently visiting the site, eager to see progress. Many residents have expressed how the station’s silence has left them “in total darkness,” as Akol Yam FM was their major source of local information.

The management along with community members continue to appeal to donors and well-wishers to support the station in fully restoring its 72-meter mast and extending coverage back to its original reach.

Trump’s government is considering banning South Sudanese from travelling to America, along with citizens from a group of 25 African countries.

An internal memo sets a 60-day deadline for the targeted nations to comply with requirements or face an entry ban. A good opportunity for our people to explore nicer countries like Russia and Iran🤣🤣🤣

Trump administration considers adding 36 countries to travel ban list
An internal memo reviewed by The Post sets a 60-day deadline for the targeted nations to conform with certain requirements, or face a full or partial entry ban.

By Adam Taylor

The United States is considering restricting entry to citizens of an additional 36 countries in what would be a significant expansion of the travel ban announced by the Trump administration early this month, according to a State Department memo reviewed by The Washington Post.

Among the new list of countries that could face visa bans or other restrictions are 25 African nations, including significant U.S. partners such as Egypt and Djibouti, plus countries in the Caribbean, Central Asia and several Pacific Island nations.

A State Department spokesperson said the agency would not comment on internal deliberations or communications. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Such a move would mark another escalation in the Trump administration’s aggressive crackdown on immigration.

The memo, which was signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and sent Saturday to U.S. diplomats who work with the countries, said the governments of listed nations were being given 60 days to meet new benchmarks and requirements established by the State Department. It set a deadline of 8 a.m. Wednesday for them to provide an initial action plan for meeting the requirements.

The memo identified varied benchmarks that, in the administration’s estimation, these countries were failing to meet. Some countries had “no competent or cooperative central government authority to produce reliable identity documents or other civil documents,” or they suffered from “widespread government fraud.” Others had large numbers of citizens who overstayed their visas in the United States, the memo said.

Other reasons included the availability of citizenship by monetary investment without a requirement of residency and claims of “antisemitic and anti-American activity in the United States” by people from those countries. The memo also stated that if a country was willing to accept third-country nationals who were removed from the United States or enter a “safe third country” agreement, it could mitigate other concerns.

It was not immediately clear when the proposed travel restrictions would be enforced if the demands were not met.

The countries facing scrutiny in the memo: Angola; Antigua and Barbuda; Benin; Bhutan; Burkina Faso; Cabo Verde; Cambodia; Cameroon; Democratic Republic of Congo; Djibouti; Dominica; Ethiopia; Egypt; Gabon; Gambia; Ghana; Ivory Coast; Kyrgyzstan; Liberia; Malawi; Mauritania; Niger; Nigeria; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Sao Tome and Principe; Senegal; South Sudan; Syria; Tanzania; Tonga; Tuvalu; Uganda; Vanuatu; Zambia; and Zimbabwe.

Trump's second presidency

The list represents a significant expansion of a presidential proclamation issued June 4, when the United States fully restricted the entry of individuals from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The United States also had partially restricted the entry of travelers from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela under that order.

Democrats and other critics of the Trump administration have described its efforts to issue blanket travel bans on selected nations as xenophobic and bigoted, pointing to President Donald Trump’s efforts to block travel from Muslim-majority nations in his first term and the high number of African and Caribbean nations targeted during this term.

Early in his first term, Trump attempted to restrict travel from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen and Libya. The initial version of the ban caused confusion and chaos at airports. It faced numerous legal challenges until the Supreme Court upheld the third version of it in June 2018.

While the travel ban was rescinded under the Biden administration, Trump repeatedly pledged to reinstate it on the campaign trail, stating it would be “bigger than before.”

On Inauguration Day, the White House issued an executive order calling on U.S. agencies, including the State Department, to look for “countries throughout the world for which vetting and screening information is so deficient as to warrant a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals from those countries.”

VIDEO: Alam Santo Malek speaks out after disappearance, denies kidnapping claims

Alam Santo Malek, the young woman at the center of a widely publicized traditional marriage controversy, has finally broken her silence following reports of her sudden disappearance and alleged elopement.

In a video message sent to Hot in Juba, Alam confirmed she is safe and staying in an undisclosed location. She stated that she left home willingly and was not kidnapped, as earlier rumored.

“I chose happiness,” she said. “I was being forced into a marriage I did not want. I want to study and become a doctor.”

Alam’s remarks come amid a heated dispute involving two suitors—renowned DJ Mangar Chuot, popularly known as DJ Bossmaan MG, and Mangar Mangar, a university student. Both men had reportedly expressed interest in marrying her early this year, with DJ Bossmaan MG being announced as winner by Alam’s family.

Alam’s disappearance on Tuesday triggered tensions, with violence breaking out against families suspected of involve

Fire destroys home, millions lost in Eastern Equatoria

A fire has reportedly destroyed a house in Naoyaporu village, Eastern Equatoria State, resulting in the loss of property worth 56 million South Sudanese Pounds and 160,000 US Dollars.

The homeowner claims the blaze was deliberately set by an individual allegedly driven by jealousy over their success.

Local authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the suspected arson.

The fire incident comes amid a national crackdown on unbanked cash.

In May, South Sudan's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) directed security agencies to seize large sums of South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) held outside the formal banking system and arrest individuals involved.

Citing the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Finance Act (2012, amended 2024), Acting FIU Commissioner Dr. Abraham Telar Nicknora ordered individuals and businesses to deposit all SSP with licensed banks.

While the exact threshold for "bulk" cash was not defined, possession of illicit sums is now punishable by up to 10 years in prison or heavy fines.

Economists link the economic crisis to political instability, currency devaluation, and reliance on oil and imports.

Let's stop hoading of money in our houses it's very dangerous for our lives and wealth.

Thieves break into church, drink altar wine and eat sacraments

Police have launched investigations following a break-in at a church in Kirinyaga, where thieves drank altar wine, ate sacramental bread, and made off with church property.

Residents remain in shock over the incident that occurred at ACK St. Matthew’s Mutithi Church.

According to the church’s vice chairman, Eliud Githaka, the theft was reported by choir members who discovered the keyboard missing.

The night guard was accused of sleeping on the job, as the robbery happened while he was on duty.

“The guard did not realize the church had been broken into, and we suspect he has been sleeping while on duty,” residents said.

Police officers visited the church on Monday night and assured the congregation that investigations are ongoing.

Church officials added, “We now have to employ our own security personnel instead of relying on the current guard.
