Governor Abdullahi on Mwangaza's Impeachment
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi says there is a need for an impeachment law to establish clear legal thresholds.
Speaking during the Tuesday Daybreak interview on Citizen TV, the Council of Governors Vice Chairperson says the current system leaves Governors vulnerable to politically motivated impeachments, citing Governor Kawira Mwangaza's case as a prime example.
"She was first impeached even before she named her cabinet, the CECs. Currently, MCAs can impeach you because they simply don't like you or your politics," he says.
"Kibwana is a perfect example. He had a difficult first term and actually requested the President to dissolve the entire county. The MCAs then sobered up, and he had a very peaceful, successful second term," he adds.
Meru MCAs have Made Impeachment a Joke
Meru MCAs are Using Impeachment as a Tool to Steal
Former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has strongly criticized the Meru County Assembly Members (MCAs) for turning impeachment into a tool for extortion.
Speaking during the Daybreak Morning show on Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, Prof. Kibwana expressed concern over the reckless manner in which the MCAs have pursued impeachment motions, citing the ongoing situation in Meru as a prime example.
Prof. Kibwana highlighted how, in his own experience, MCAs often demanded money from governors to shield them from impeachment.
"They are always asking for money. You tell them that the money is for development, and they tell you that if you don't give them the money, they will dry you up, since they are the ones who prepare the budget," he says.
During the interview, Prof. Kibwana pointed out the absurdity of impeaching a governor just three months into office, as seen with Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
He emphasized that such actions clearly indicate that the motives behind these impeachment attempts are not based on performance but rather on political and financial interests.
"We really must have good constitutional reasons so that we do not make impeachment a joke," he concluded.
Just like Mwangaza, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana faced relentless impeachment attempts early in his first term, driven by political motives rather than performance.
Despite the pressure, he overcame these challenges through resilience and a commitment to serving his constituents, ultimately completing his term and securing re-election.

WATCH: Senators are well informed about what has been happening in Meru County.
Just before the second impeachment at the Senate, nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya issued a warning to the Senate. Yes, a nominated MCA warned the Senate:
"If you bring back Governor Kawira Mwangaza, we have 6 more impeachments lined up to remove her from office. Mkimrudisha, tunamtoa, mkimrudisha tena, tunamtoa..."
This statement made it clear that her goal and that of her group of MCAs was not accountability or governance, but rather a sustained campaign to hound the Governor out of office.
The Senate, upon examining the evidence, found no substantive grounds for the accusations.
And Yes, in less than a year, Zipporah Kinya alias ZK is back, making good on her threat by pushing another impeachment. This time, she decided to personally move the motion.
Her determination to pursue these personal scores with the Governor reveals her true agenda, which has little to do with the interests of the people of Meru.
If the Senate were to agree with Zipporah’s latest impeachment attempt, they would not only be aiding her in settling personal scores, but also succumbing to her threats issued early this year.
