Lake Turkana, has a surface area of 6,405Km2 and a total length of 290Km and 32Km width.

The annual fish harvest potential at L. Turkana is estimated at 30,000 MT from the current production of 12,000MT annually.

Do you think it is better to be polygamous or monogamous?

Traditionally in Turkana community, the essence of polygamy was clear.

Multiple wives also means that the wives can share
duties and responsibilities. Some will look after the children while others will look after livestock and still others burn charcoal, cook while others take care of the visitors and other things.

The women also keep each other company when
their husband is away.

Though the Kenya National bureau of statistics (KNBS) report 2023 show Turkana state of polygamy is not worrying/wanting compared to other counties. But history dictates Turkana men marry multiple women just like any other pastoralists communities in the world.

They say it helps them to extend their families, which is a huge part of their culture as their forefathers had many wives.

Vatican News has just announced the death of former Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI on 31 December 2022, at 9:34 a.m. (Rome time).

Josef Ratzinger was born on 16 April 1927 in Germany. He was ordained a Deacon on 29 October 1950, and a Priest on 29 June 1951. He was ordained a Bishop on 28 May 1977 and was elevated to Cardinal on 27 June of the same year.

He participated in the Second Vatican Council and was appointed Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under Pope St. John Paul II.

He also served under various Pontifical Commissions. He was elected Pope on 19 April 2005, succeeding John Paul II.

He chose the name Benedict and, with firm and faithful hands, guided the ark of the Church. After a reign of almost eight years, Pope Benedict XVI resigned the Papacy on 28 February 2013.

The former dies at age 95.

Prof. Ekal is a geological physican and a politician.

TURKANA COMMEMORATES THE 'ATA NAYECHE' DAY HELD IN LETEA - TURKANA WEST TODAY.

As Turkana celebrates the legendary mother, afew questions here to help us understand our association with the mother!

BRIEF HISTORY!

The history speaks of a group of eight young men from JIE, Karamoja who were in search of a lost bull. Upon tracing for quite long, spending days and night in the escarpments they finally found it at NAYECHE Mountain at the border of Uganda and Kenya. The bull was in custody of a woman named after the mountain 'Ata Nayeche'

It is believed the woman's origin is in Karamoja, Uganda. She had come from karamoja to gather wild fruits and settled there for many years.

Ata Nayeche, showed the eight warriors around and the valley with beautiful scenes. Later divided then into different territorial boundaries.

The warriors were impressed with the area which was fertile, productive and conducive for their livelihood. They returned to Jie and returned with their families and livestock. They settled permanently at the Tarach area thus became Turkana.

Hon. Christopher Nakuleu, Speaker of Turkana county Assembly asks the national security agencies in Turkana to heighten their surveillance in the areas of Kainuk, Kakongu' in Turkana south where insecurity has been evident.

While calling on partnership on matters security Hon. Nakuleu reaffirmed the ability of current security team saying, he is confident and they're upto the task.

Specially on festive season, the speaker insisted something has to be done to allow the free movement of people, goods and services in the region.

Fr. Albert Salvans who runs the Missionary Community of St Paul the Apostle, (MCSPA) in Lobur, on the edge of the Turkana County in northwest Kenya dancing with congregants a Turkana thanksgiving song. According to locals, the celebration is all about the achievement of the mission in the areas of agriculture, water, health and education projects. Fr. Albert added that the mission is now involved in a major new diocesan-wide peace initiative, and an innovative agricultural project in collaboration with other partners.

Chaos emerge in Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu county as hawkers battle County enforcement officers leading to looting at Eldomatt supermarket and some general stores at the vicinity. It is claimed that county askari's were on order to implement removal of street families within Eldoret Town. The street families retaliated the move by engaging the County enforcement teams on running skirmishes near Eldoret Main Market. Tension is still high in the area and the public has been advised to keep off the areas around Eldoret Main market.
