The HAFF - Hodari Arts & Film Festival has only one goal which is understanding the Film industry and fixing it. Today we had a word with a guy who decided to quit acting.

" My name is Levis Korir aka KDF and I am a bodaboda operator by profession based in Kitale Kenya.I was cooking and vending "kangumu" in 2012 when Kijimbi a friend of mine introduced me to acting which was my childhood dream.After months of trying out I decided to quit and venture into an instantly paying hustle since i have bills to pay and a family to feed.If one day the industry starts paying well, I will get back". For Creatives based in Kitale and any other part of the world,has your Art ever paid you? Have you ever considered quitting? Usijali, this is why this FESTIVAL IS HERE.OURS WILL BE GIVING LONG TERM PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS.

Kitale is the capital of Trans Nzoia County which borders The Republic of Uganda , West pokot County , Uasin Gishu County, Bungoma County and Kakamega County. Famously known for Maize Production hence nicknamed "food basket" , it has also produced great talents like Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Mulamwah among others.In the year 2009 , young people from Kitale among them Sylvester Mbuguz Esther Simiyu , Milka Wanjiku Benard among others kicked off a journey to establish a film industry in Kitale through a film called the DARKPIT and this is where it all started.15 years later other production companies have followed suit including Hodari Audio Visuals , Transwood Film Studios Shupavu Creations Trans Rift VINKO pictures Switfun etc. My two questions;
1. Have you ever watched any filmed done by local filmmakers ?
2. What do you think local filmmakers should do to improve the film industry?

Let's talk sound recording for film, majorly on microphones🤝
Learn this basic two-microphone setup to capture professional-quality audio for your next documentary interviews🎤🎬

1. Lavalier/lapel mic (clip- on)
Attach on interviewee's clothing around the chest area for optimal sound capture or hide it beneath so it's not seen, depending on client preference.
# Lavalier mics provide close-up, hands-free recording, ideal for capturing clear dialogue without picking up excessive background noise.

2. Shotgun mic
Attach on a boom pole and position out of frame above the interviewee's head.
# Shotgun boom mics capture a broader range of sound and provide a more natural ambiance to the interview.

Position the mic at the right distance and angle, pointing towards the subject's mouth(or source of sound you want to capture) to get a clear and natural sound.
In case the subject is moving or changing positions during the shoot:
Anticipate their movements
Adjust the mic positions
Follow the sound-You need consistent audio quality throughout the scene/ interview.
You can carry the boom pole by hand for short interviews or those with movements or clamp it on a C stand for longer interviews.

Set and monitor audio levels on the mixer and use headphones in real time.
