Let's go to class now;
What is the difference between uchumi and inflation?

Uchumi -shughuli zote za binadamu zinazolenga kutosheleza mahitaji Yao.

Inflation -The rate of increase in prices over a given period of time i.e, Decline in purchase power among citizens in a given country.

The question is , are we battling with uchumi Iko juu ama high inflation in Kenya right now?
When the uchumi Iko juu, the country is in the right trajectory. When the inflation is high, the country is heading in the wrong direction i.e, poverty level becomes high.

Three months to 1992 elections, there was a major rift in FORD over the party's flag bearer. While Matiba believed Oginga Odinga was too OLD, Jaramogi insisted Matiba was too "SICK". FORD collapsed to Ford Kenya and Ford Asili. Both gentlemen LOST to Moi. Will this repeat itself in 2027 btn Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in Azimio? Time will tell.

UPDATE: After taking power from his father in 2009, Gabon President Ali Bongo, 64 says will run for third term

Bongo says that he would seek a third term as the oil-rich African nation's head of state.

The Bongo family has ruled the country for 55 years already and is branded a "dynastic power" by the opposition after Bongo took over from his father, Omar Bongo Ondimba in 2009.

Presidential elections will be held on August 26.

His powerful Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) holds strong majorities in both houses of parliament.

The president was narrowly re-elected in 2016, with just 5,500 more votes than rival Jean Ping who claimed the election had been fixed.

Announcement of the results sparked violence in the capital Libreville that killed four civilians and a policeman, according to the government, while the opposition says 30 people were shot dead by the security forces.

Bongo suffered a stroke in 2018 and spent months on the sidelines recovering, leaving the opposition to question his fitness to running nation.

He still has a stiff arm and leg and has mobility difficulties, but in recent months has held "republican meetings" around the country and made official visits abroad, including for summits.

UPDATE: Nairobians are set to pay more for water after the state made good its plans to charge the city government for the water it sells to its residents.

The Water (Amendment) Bill 2023, sponsored by National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa, makes it mandatory for Nairobi and other counties that do not produce their own water to buy the commodity.

Currently, Nairobi county does not pay host counties or the national government for the resource it sells to its residents through the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company.

The city county receives its water from Ndakaini, Sasumua, Konoike and Thika Dam, which are all located outside the city.

UPDATE: Azimio leader Raila Makes 6 Fresh Demands Over Ruto 35% Tax Increase & House Levy.

Raila raises concerns over the proposed Finance Bill 2023 noting that it is a move by the Government, led by President William Ruto, to punish Kenyans.

The former Prime Minister argues that the bill goes against promises the Head of State had earlier made.

Raila demands that instead of subjecting all government employees to new mandatory taxation, the regime should instead reduce the size of the government, excess cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, directorates, advisors, aids, departments and cars are gobbling up finances for no good value for money.

He further demands that there should be an immediate stoppage on non-essential government expenditures including the appointment of chief administrative officers

He also advocates for the abolishment of money he claims was being spent on political operations that are disguised as relief food distribution or fundraisers.

The Azimio leader also demands that domestic and international travel, conferences, workshops, and training be reduced.

Raila also calls for a freeze on ministerial out-of-station allowances, ministerial house allowances and domestic allowances for cabinet and principal secretaries.

UPDATE: The chairperson of President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors David Ndii hit out at leaders criticising the government’s taxation plans in the next financial year.

Ndii asks people with issues with Finance Bill 2023 to sit down and write an alternative budget that is cushioned from external shocks without International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He also suggests that they should also show how they can bring down the budget deficit with no tax measures.

Ndii also made headlines recently when he said Kenyans have two choices on the cost of electricity; to bear with the high costs or brace for frequent power outages.

He said the Kenya Kwanza government never promised Kenyans cheap electricity during their pre-election manifesto drafted ahead of the August polls..
