This is the famous Dho Goye bridge in Usenge, Bondo. It's where R. Yala pours it's water into Lake Victoria. A beautiful scene.

The bridge connects Majimbo/Osieko Island to Usenge town and the rest of Siaya County.

The bridge is also a critical access point to several important institutions including Got Agulu Sub County Hospital, Nyayo Polytechnic, and Siungu beaches which offer recreational activities like boat riding competition.

What you need to know about the New Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Muriu Kahariri

He is now the Lieutenant General and appointed him Vice Chief of Defence Forces on March 9, 2024.

He succeeded Lieutenant General Jonah Maina, who served 42 years.

He joined the Kenya Defence Forces on April 3, 1987, and was commissioned as an Officer (Second Lieutenant) on April 15, 1988.

Following his commissioning, he received additional training in the United Kingdom before serving in various roles on board ships in the Kenya Navy Fleet.

Lt Gen Kahariri has held a variety of leadership, command, and administrative positions during the course of his remarkable 30-year career.

These include positions such as Commanding Officer of Kenya Navy Ships Mamba, Madaraka, and Umoja, as well as Commanding Officer at Kenya Navy Manda Base.

He later held critical positions such as Squadron Commander, Commander of the Kenyan Navy Fleet, and Deputy Commander of the Kenyan Navy.

He then went on to work at the famous National Defence College as Senior Directing Staff (Navy), Deputy Commandant (Military), and Commandant. During the seizure of Kismaiyu, he was the Maritime Component Commander for "Operation Linda Nchi" and the Task Force Commander for "Operation Sledge Hammer".

He has also served as Kenya's National Focal Person for the Contact Group on Piracy Off Somalia's Coast and the Djibouti Code of Conduct. He was also a member of the National Task Forces for the Delimitation of Kenya's Exclusive Economic Zones and the Kenyan Extended Continental Shelf.

Lt Gen Kahariri has taken a number of local and international courses to increase his capacity and skills in carrying out his duties.

These courses include the International Midshipman Course (UK), Long Navigation Course (India), Management and Strategic Planning Course, Naval Command Course (USA), Joint Campaign Planning, Flag Level Combined Maritime Component Command Course (Italy), Senior Strategic Leadership Course (UK), and Executive Development Course (University of North Carolina, USA).

He also possesses a Diploma in Strategic and Security Studies from the US Naval War College.

Lt Gen Kahariri has received numerous honours and distinctions, the most recent being Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).
