GT News | The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has called for the renaming of seven counties—Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nandi, Kisii, Turkana, Embu, and Samburu—due to their ethnic identities.
The NCIC argues that these names create a sense of entitlement among certain communities, leading to ethnic profiling and overrepresentation in resource allocation.
Acting NCIC Secretary/CEO Harrison Kariuki emphasized the need to review the naming under the First Schedule of the Constitution.
He also noted that 33 out of 47 counties in Kenya have boundary disputes.
