ISSUES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME A ADVISORY
Japan Meteorological Agency ( ) has issued a Mega-quake Advisory for Through. The said advisory was issued at 7:15PM Japanese Time of August 8, 2024.
This said advisory was issued for the very first time since the implementation of the said operation last 2019.
What does this mean?
-- There is an INCREASED POSSIBILITY of a Huge Earthquake centered within Nankai Area. According to JMA : "The possibility of a large earthquake occurring is relatively higher than usual."
When will it happen?
-- JMA HAS NOT RELEASED any exact dates for this earthquake. There is just an increased probability (70-80%) within the next 20 - 30 years due to the earthquake that occurred this evening in Kyushu.
Where does the center of the earthquake may strike?
-- JMA estimates the epicenter may occur anywhere between the eastern coasts of Kyushu Region, Shikoku Region, Southern coasts of Kansai Region, or Southwestern coast of Kanto Region.
Where can this earthquake be felt IF IT HAPPENS?
-- If the earthquake occurs in the Nankai Trough, strong shaking will occur over a wide area from Kanto to Kyushu, and high tsunamis are expected along the Pacific coast from Kanto to Okinawa.
What is the NANKAI TROUGH EARTHQUAKE?
-- The Nankai Trough earthquake is a massive magnitude 8-class temblor that regularly occurs every 100 to 200 years at the plate boundary between Suruga Bay in Shizuoka Prefecture and the Hyuganada Sea in Kyushu.
The government is calling for people to re-assure their daily preparations, such as securing furniture in preparation for shaking, and confirming evacuation sites and methods for checking the safety of family members.
