WORK-LIFE BALANCE in JAPAN

As assistant language teachers, we work 7 hours on our regular jobs plus the hours we put in for our individual part time jobs. However, we don’t have overtimes, take home checkables, and most importantly WORK RELATED STRESS.

Maraming FREE TIME! Last weekend, I started learning VOLLEYBALL.

お疲れ様です！(Otsukaresama desu!)

In お-疲れ-様, you can find the root 疲れる (tsukareru) which translates into ‘be or to get tired’. However, the meaning of the expression is quite different. In the workplace, お疲れ様です expresses the appreciation of your co-workers’ hard work.

The closest English translation would be “thank you for your hard work”, “good work” or more simply saying that “you’ve worked hard”. By saying お疲れ様です, you show your appreciation for a colleague’s work within your team or related to your company.

The BEST TIME to go to JAPAN? Definitely AUTUMN. Why AUTUMN?

1. Cheaper flights - compared to spring and winter seasons, flights during autumn is cheaper. Check the autumn foliage map before booking your flights.

2. Lesser crowds - cities are always crowded whether it’s peak or off seasons but there’s definitely lesser crowds compared to when it’s spring.

3. Great weather - temperature can go from 15 degrees Celsius down to 2 degrees in Tokyo. You can layer your outfits and you’d feel less tired while you’re out and about

Philippines is NOT A POPULAR vacation spot for many Japanese people.

Our beaches are one of a kind. Kapag legit balikbayan ka na, you would appreciate the beaches in The Philippines even more. Believe it or not, Philippines is NOT a popular vacation spot for many Japanese people. But every time I show these pictures in class, gandang ganda sila!

I still hope that someday, we can make our country safer and easier for those who wish to visit. Out of the many conversations I had with my colleagues, what keeps them from visiting Philippines are these two things: SAFETY and TRANSPORTATION.

KAMOTE IN JAPAN IS THE BEST!

Kung pupunta po kayo ng japan, wag kalimutang bumili ng baked kamote sa mga supermarket. This one is from OK! Supermarket. It’s ¥200 (₱74) per piece.

Anong lasa? Lasang kamote cue na agad kahit walang nilagay na sugar. Mushier and smoother in texture din siya compared to our local kamote.

I GOT REJECTED.

I’ve been applying for a higher paying job for a few weeks now but today, I got the confirmation saying I didn’t make it. During the wait, I already felt at peace knowing I showed up. I was underqualified, yet I was there. I lacked experience, yet I was there. I couldn’t bring myself to my supposed interview last year for another job, but this time, I made sure I was there.

It’s a nice feeling knowing I showed up during an extremely difficult season of my life. And that, is my proudest and loudest small win. A proof that rejections aren’t failures. Remember, rejections are redirections, too.

Here’s to trying. 🥂
