Public Bath Press Public Bath Press is a publishing company devoted to unusual approaches to Japanese culture and subculture. We are based in Japan, publishing in English.

Once upon a time, David Public and Betsy Bath started a label, Public Bath Records, to introduce interesting Japanese music to a broader world. That continued for a few years, but Bath had to retire so the operation was shuttered. Out of the ashes, Public Bath Press, a publisher has been born. The mission is more or less the same, to make available information about Japanese music that is little k

nown to the English speaking world. Dokkiri! Japanese Indies Music 1976-1989 began the trip, and more books will continue to follow. Gaseneta Wasteland, a memoit of a crucial early punk (artcore?) Tokyo band came out at the beginning of 2017. Mikami Kan's 2000 autobiography will come out in the summer of 2017. Work continues on Wajima Yusuke's history of Enka, due maybe by year end? And it will go on and on....
