Japan Mission Japan Mission is interdenominational, not forming churches, but supporting local churches in Japan Movements in the church and missions can be likened to waves.
(13)

We cannot create waves. We must discern the approaching waves and plan our outreach as the Lord leads. As we plan our outreach, we must be sensitive as to how the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of people, and how we can best meet their needs. The Japan Mission has ridden many waves in the past. It started by riding the wave of Hospital Evangelism. Since then it has ridden the waves of Radio E

vangelism, Newspaper Evangelism and Film Evangelism. As times have changed, each of these has given way to other forms of outreach. Results in Newspaper and Radio Evangelism declined, so we started doing English Evangelism and holding evangelistic meetings and wedding seminars. People don’t borrow films anymore so then we started producing and distributing videos. The Japan Mission is in a unique position to take advantage of changing trends in missions. The Mission is an interdenominational organization which doesn’t plant churches, but rather seeks to link those reached through many avenues of ministry to the many already existing evangelical churches which teach the fundamental doctrines of the Bible. This enables the Mission to be very flexible in its outreach. The Mission is able to change its outreach and start new programs as trends change, according to the Lord’s direction. Please pray that the leaders of the Japan Mission would be sensitive to God’s leading and the current trends of missions as they plan their outreach. Please pray that each member of the Mission would continue to be faithful in sowing the seed. Praising God for His faithfulness,

David Verwey

MEDIA MINISTRY:
Last week we finished up a video for Izumi Hope Chapel. Special thanks to the sponsorship of asialink.org who made this video possible!

We pray that this video will help draw local residents and clearly show that all are welcome to the Father’s house.

PASTORS MEETING
This Monday many of the pastors we partner with in the English outreach will come together for our annual gathering. It’s always a great time of fellowship and a time to hear from each one about what God is doing in their lives.

Pray with us for the leaders of these communities as they press on to scatter seeds of the gospel throughout their communities. May the lord bless these leaders with wisdom to reach those around them.

LAST 2 WEEKS!
Pray with us for churches and missionaries as we are in the last couple weeks of english outreach before summer break!

We will soon be saying summer goodbyes to students, packing up, and gearing up to travel. Thank you for sustaining us and the ministry here with your faithful prayers.

Please Pray with us to finish strong, for safe travels, and quality time back home. May the lord fully refresh each one for further service in September!

SWEET SIXTEEN!!
This week we had our youngest volunteer come out from Arizona with her grandmother. She was only 16years old, but with the vision and foresight of someone in their twenties.

Extremely blessed to have the help in the kids ministries during this time when a little short on staff.

Pray with us for the many volunteers who come out seeking the Lord for direction and clear leading in their own lives; while offering themselves as a blessing to those around them.

GROWING
At CAYA Kinder we have a little garden, and things are growing…

We pray for the children continuously, to God who makes things grow… like in our garden.🪴

1 Corinthians 3:7-9
So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

SHORT TERM OUTREACH
We began to loose count of the number of groups that visited JM so far in 2024 that we put together a map. Last week our first volunteer from Romania put in his pin for us! So thankful…

If you are looking to serve short term we welcome you!

Helping churches reach their communities for Christ is a core purpose of Japan Mission. Volunteers with professional skills can help us make a great difference and bring spiritual blessing and encouragement to all involved.

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

PLAN IN PENCIL
Sometimes we have ideas and GOD steps in.

A volunteer from San Diego reached out to help at Japan Mission during the last week of July. We told her that there would be nothing to do! Sadly all our staff return to their home countries in August, and the last week of July is mostly busy with preparations to leave…

We said we would take it all to the Lord, but that unless God steps in with other ideas it would be a slow ministry time.

A few weeks ago we got an unusual request to put on an English day-camp from a friend, in a group well-connected to the local Japanese elementary school.

We told our friend that unfortunately we can’t. That "we are not a for-profit English school and we approach all events with a spiritual objective, to share the love of Christ. Besides, in August all our staff leave and we couldn’t do it…"

They said, "we understand! Please do your spiritual thing, and if August won’t work lets do the last week of July!"

Then I remembered our prayer, that if there is any specific work during the LAST WEEK OF JULY for this volunteer from San Diego that the Lord would guide us… With the volunteer help, there are enough other staff to pull it off, and it opens the door for more cooperation with the local school.

Ok Lord, your are the boss!

Planning has begun, pray with us for July 25th

FAMILY
In May and June family is a big theme in our outreaches; celebrating Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Children’s Day to.

Divorce is much less common in Japan compared to the west but we are careful as some of our students come from troubled homes. In Japan it is also not uncommon for kids to be away from their fathers because they are working overseas or in other prefectures. They even have a word for it here because it is so common.

単身赴任 Tanshinhunin
- to live separated from one’s family for the purposes of work

At the same time, it is encouraging to see many fathers of this generation get more involved in their families. Pray with us for this generation of children and young families today.

May the Lord give us His love to pour into the families all around us and point them to Him.

RUN!!
This week the Lord brought Jack Adams to JM. He departed on Day 30 of his run from the very bottom of Japan right to the TOP!!

The run is aimed at bringing awareness, attracting volunteers, raising support, and creating partnerships to reverse the loneliness epidemic in Japan.

Pray with us that the Lord would meet the lonely here in Japan.

GOLDEN WEEK
Last week was one of the most festive times of the year in Japan known as Golden Week. The period included four national holidays and stretched from 29 April to May 5th.

It was one of the busiest times of year for travel as millions of people made the most of the extended time off and beautiful spring weather. Traffic all over the country was INCREDIBLE! After a week of hard play it’s back to work for Japan.

MEDIA MINISTRY:
Last week we went on a filming shoot for a another church video. Special thanks to the sponsorship of asialink.org who made this video possible!

Now editing begins…
There are many in Japan who are hesitant to come to church for fear that they might be shamed by those around them or that they may not be welcomed if they are not a christian.

We pray that this video would help draw local residents and clearly show that all are welcome to the Father’s house.

THE MEDIA GAP:
There is a media gap between the Japanese church and society, where great work is being done in the church but it is not shared effectively online.

CHURCH- 70% of pastors approaching retirement age, average church at only 30 members, lacking the funding or talent needed to effectively use media in engaging the next generation for Christ.

SOCIETY- +94% of Japanese are connected to the internet, +90% of users actively browsing through mobile devices.

HELP US CLOSE THE GAP
There are churches that would like to create a promotional video for their church but don't have the funds to get the project rolling.

If you feel led to partner with us in this mission to close the media gap with the Japanese church, please contact us!
