Ark of Fire

－Planning intention
What did the 2011 disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant reveal to us? Isn't this already a thing of the distant past that is about to be forgotten? Indeed, many things became the subject of suspicion and distrust. Firstly, there was suspicion about the handling of the accident and the concealment of information. Secondly, there was suspicion against a privileged group known as The Nuclear Village, and furthermore, there was skepticism against science and technology in general. And this confusion seems to be still existing. This is the story of a family of four during one night. They have discussions about student movements, military bases in Okinawa, nuclear power plants, and generally about postwar Japan. We hope to help people think about Japan more objectively, without sticking to one-sided opinions about the problems and contradictions of postwar Japan. Concerning nuclear power, have we really wished for coexistence with this? As the only country to have suffered from atomic bombings, and now that we are in the midst of an energy crisis, this is an issue that we would like to reconsider. Even though more than 10 years have passed since the accident that shocked the world, it appears that this country's nuclear power policy is still undecided. That is the reason why we planned this work.

－Synopsis
After retiring from university, Shinya Hirose holds a temporary position as chairman of an energy-related foundation. He lives a quiet life in Tokyo with his wife Natsu. But one night many things happen. His daughter Junko, who works for a newspaper company in Hiroshima, stops by in Tokyo to write about the Daigo Fukuryu Maru. At the same time, his older brother Shinichi, a journalist, suddenly shows up after decades with no contact. They had been unsure if he was still alive. The two brothers get very drunk and have a heated discussion about their past, about problems in society and the future. The wife and daughter also get involved. Then, just as the night is about to end, ...
