Japanese Omiyage Culture

Omiyage (お土産) or souvenir in English is one of the common traditions in Japan. It is the act of giving a gift or souvenir (mostly snack) to your co-workers, friends or love ones after you return from a trip.

This is an act of respect, showing that you remember them while you are away. So don't be surprise to find some snacks on your table every now and then. And make sure that you also extend time, money and effort to give omiyage to the people around you whenever you travel.

Whenever they give me omiyage, some teachers would explain where it came from. They take pride in sharing that the omiyage they chose is something famous in that place. Meaning they spent time choosing "the one".

This is a Shinto Shrine located near my Base School. It literally means 'National Defenses Shrine'. This kind of Shrine can be found in other prefecture. These Shrines were made to enshrine the people who died in the war.

I pass this way every Monday and Friday on my way to my second school. Since autumn is finally here, I just can't stop myself from taking pictures. The changing of leaves reminded me of the things that I had to let go just to come here. Just like the Autumn leaves, I was reminded that there are some things that are beautiful to let go.

Food vs me and it's a win-win situation.

Mr. Donut here in Japan has a lot of donut choices, they even have hotdog burger and rice meal! Whenever I stay for like 30 minutes, they offer to refill my coffee.

Marugame Seimen is a famous udon shop here in Asahikawa. I made a vlog of it and even until now I still go there every now and then. The place is near my workplace 😆

Korean Ramen is my favorite. When i tried the Japanese ramen is so far from the taste I was used to. The serving is so big that it's good for sharing (mind it if you happen to order) you can also order it with fried chicken and rice.

Flat + White Cafe

This all-white cafe is small, decent and cozy. There are two dining areas across two floors. The connection between the two floors is the famous staircase, which is great for taking photos.
The staff‘s English is pretty good, so the ordering process was very smooth. As for the coffee, the taste is pretty good, and the they pur art latte too.

Memory House Cafe

With an entrance of 50 Baht you can enjoy this lovely cafe. You can exchange the fee to any drinks, but you have to add payment. The drinks were super cute and unique. A lot of insta-worthy spots to capture lovely memories.

Baanbai Garden and Homes

A cute size shop located in the middle of the garden with a bit of English style. Not very wide, but clean and airy and has cute decorations too. You can do nice selfies from every angle. There are enough seats (quite few), there are a variety of desserts and drinks, I recommend the Garlic Cream cheese bread, it's so good. The atmosphere of the shop is shady, decorated as a garden of trees and flowers. Suitable for chilling, chatting, and working. The price is pocket friendly and the staff are very accommodating. The waiting area is spacious.

Good place for taking photos. Not hard to find, and the place is surrounded by trees and lakes which overall gives nice ambience. There are 2 zones; café and restaurant. Café seems to be pretty small with limited number of drinks.

START CAFE

This cafe is hidden but it's worth going in. The atmosphere is good and the air is cold. The cafe is small but beautiful. Coffee is good and desserts look delicious. Prices are acceptable and there is good service staff. The cafe has two floors and both are conditioned. Better to visit early morning or late afternoon.

Bothong Homestay

Beautiful place and atmosphere, suitable for a break, there are restaurants, cafes and you can even stay for the night. The shop has a good ambience. The evening mood is a whole lot better for aesthetics feels and pictures. The chicken fried rice is delicious for a cheap price. The staff is polite and the place is clean. Love the chocolate cake.

Pastry Addiction

The place is beautiful, well decorated, right in front of Pattaya central beach. Beautiful ocean view in a good central location. There is an external open area if you don't like air conditioning. The place and ambience is really nice and relaxing, even the toilet is so instagrammable! Food are expensive and prices excludes tax so don’t be surprised with your final bill. Carrot cake is my favorite.

After 3 years, Thailand held again the Songkran which is one of its most celebrated festivals. This event started on the 13th of April until the 15th of 2023. Today, I decided to join for the first time. We started at Icon Siam and ended at Khao San Road.

This Starbucks is one of the most photographed locations in Bangkok due to its European style building. The outside view is quite unique but it is actually quite small inside. Often crowded because of the people taking pictures, but the service is fast.

U and Me Cafe

This place has a small cafe but at the back has an amazing views perfect for instagram. Just buy some drinks and show your receipt before going inside. If you dont like to drink or eat then just pay 50 baht.

Not only the drinks are awesome but also the entire place and service. The decoration environment is Better than expected, good for IG stories. The beautiful artistic theme will bring you to different places in one area.

Today, I was asked to be one of the judges to the college students' final presentation. 20 groups showed their works with different topics. The films highlighted the Thai cultures represented by different topics.

This is just a teaser. I wish I can show the whole videos but I only got to record their introduction. I feel so blessed that I got to watch such beautiful Thai dances. Don't expect too much but I still hope you have fun watching. 😁

Hi guys! Last Sunday, my nephew and I went to MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Music) at Bangkok. We were supposed to check their art collections but upon arrival we found out that they have a display of Banksy's work. We actually don't know who that is 😅 but it is the last day for his works' exhibition, so we decided to see it since it is the first time they display his work at Southeast Asia.
