ーCould you introduce a little bit of yourself?

Hello, my name is Htet Arkar Zaw(HAZ) and I’m 24 years old. I’ve been doing music producing over 9yrs.

ーYour new track "TE TING" is out.
Tell me more about this track.

This truck is special. I heard some noise from outside while I’m showering. It gave me inspiration to create future riddim style so I took my ph to record that noise right away and I put some of my sound design and effect together.

ーHow did you start djing / producing?

As a teenager, I didn’t know what I really wanted to do but I knew that I like to listen all kinds of music style and wanted to try new instruments. I got my dj player 9 yrs ago that’s how I started to practice and creat by my own. I showed my new truck to my friends and they gave me advice which is good or bad.

About music producing,
In 2008, I listened “Love Will Come Again" by Tiesto & "Don't Stop" by ATB after I listened these songs, I realized that I’m really into the trance music which gives me a lot of inspiration and energy.

ーWhat kind of genres did you produce before you started producing bass music?

Before the production of bass music, house music was my first genre. And i started producing House music, progressive house and trance.

ーWhat advice can you give djs/producers who just begin their career?

Well, I never think that I’m enough. There are a lot more things to learn out there.
There are a lot of experiences which i’m missing. But I never give up. I always wanted to learn something new. We need to upgrade ourselves every single day. Learn more. Practice more. Create more.

ーHow is EDM scene in Myanmar?

Bass music scene over here is growing very fast! There has been a huge rise in the number of festivals and club opening. Myanmar people love to party!

ーCan you tell us about your future plans?

I want to collaborate other music producers from foreign countries.
I want to give new creation to my audience in the future.

ーPlease leave a message for your fans in Japan!

Interview with DËKAY

ー Your new track”Bring It Home”is out.
Tell me more about the this track.

Bring it Home is a collaboration between myself, European producer Nimez, and New York City rapper Drama B. For several years we have been friends but had never worked on a track together. Between the three of us we have made an impact within the underground trap community and a collaboration was long overdue. The original idea started over a year ago when Nimez sent me the first draft. After the track was finished, we immediately sent it over to our home label Tribal Trap, which has not only made a name for itself as a great curator of trap music, but also released many original tracks over the past few years which have guided the direction of trap music.

ー How did you start DJing and Producing?

From a young age I was always interested in music. When I was 7 I began to learn guitar and piano. By the time I was a teenager I had begun playing guitar in rock bands and playing clubs in the Boston USA area. During this time is when I discovered skrillex and dubstep music. From there I also began to discover other aggressive forms of EDM such as hardstyle. Coming from a rock music background, the energy of hard dance music made me fall in love with EDM and want to know how to create the sounds that I was hearing. When I was 17 I began teaching myself music production, and when I was 18 began to learn DJ’ing so I could perform at university parties and small club events as an opener.

ー Who would you like to collaborate with next?

I would love to collaborate with underground bass artists such as Eugene and Stuca. I think the underground bass music scene has developed an extremely unique identity that has allowed a lot of freedom of artistic expression. These guys will be pioneers of a new wave of bass music production and style throughout the next couple of years.

ー Tell me about your first show.

My first club show I was an opening act for dubstep artist Downlink. I was 18 at the time and playing a 500 capacity club. It was a strong learning experience for me to be in front of a crowd of that size because I learned about the importance of stage presence and performing for the crowd as a DJ. I had always been a shy person, so learning to perform with confidence in front of a crowd was a great experience to gain and then help with my career later on as I began to perform more shows.

ー What is the most memorable show in your DJ life?

My most memorable show was my first international booking in Myanmar at Taunggyi. It was a dream come true to be able to take my music to such a distant part of the world and enjoy the power of music with people who I now call very close friends.

ー What about your future plan?

My future plans are to continue working on production and releasing music consistently while working with a wide range of artists from different cultural backgrounds and styles. I think the power of the internet for networking, and the ability for many people to express themselves freely in music is allowing me to explore myself through music as well as forming new friendships with collaborators around the world and learning about their culture, beliefs, and views on music.

ー Please leave a message for your fans in Japan!

Hey everyone in japan! Hope to visit you all in 2021 and thank you for your support. I love the music your artists are producing, and the nightlife culture in your country. I’m very excited to meet you all and learn about your country and have fun together. Stay strong, wish you all the best, and let’s party soon

Interview with Kartypartyy

ー How you first got into DJing / producing?

I grew up loving EDM and went to a festival in Australia. That made me wanted to start Dj’ing. I tried it out on a house party and loved it. I only did dj’ing for fun until I got some gigs in Bangkok. I took it more serious in 2019, and this got me playing at Thailand’s best festivals throughout the year. I decided to start producing music last year too so I could expand myself to even more.

ー What is the most memorable show in your DJ life?

My most memorable show would be Hanoi in Vietnam because it was my first international booking and the people were so amazing. It was a great welcome by the fans, and the people who organized this event. First time seeing myself on a huge poster, with a small red carpet. I could tell that they all were coming to see me which made me more excited and the crowd was as its best. The vibe was indescribable. The air condition was also shut off so the club were heated up because everybody was dancing which made it to a fire night! After the show, fans were waiting outside to take pictures with me. I miss that!

ー You released “The Dark Machine” with Gummy Kid. Tell me more about this track?

It is a good collaboration with my very good friend from Malaysia. My music taste is kind of rock and we both like it heavy, Since we both are dubstep producer so we decided to mix these two genres together and this is what it came out like. Heavy Metal Dubstep.

ー As Thailand's dance music scene growth, how is Bass Music scene there?

Bass Music scene over here is growing fast as it should. A lot of People are interested in Bass Music especially youngster. I also have an organization called "BASSHEADTEMPLE". We find talented upcoming Bass Music artists to be on the team to support the Bass Music scene. We try to have at least one event every month to push all the people together into one community.

ー Can you tell us about your future plans?

My future plan is to focusing more on production especially music so I can release more songs. Try to have a collaboration with big artists, and a dream would be to sign up with a big label.

ー Please leave a message for your fans in Japan!

Japan is my favorite country without doubt. I love Japan, I love the people, the food, and the culture and I just want to say Thanks to all of my fans there and I hope to see you soon!

Interview with Andre and Virion

Q1. Could you introduce a little bit of yourself?

Andre : well hello, I'm Andre, 17 years old DJ/ Producer based in Myanmar. Since i was young, music has always been an integral part of my life. I grew up listening to Avicii and always dreamt of becoming a DJ like him. I started to make electronic music when i was 15 and since then, i have been making some electronic music.

Virion : Hi there! I am Virion, 19 years old DJ/ producer from Myanmar. Since I was young, I was introduced to different kinds of music from my family, my dad listening to some classical songs and my sisters listening to some bands. During my high school years, I started writing some songs and tried to produce some music. Later, I found myself listening to a lot of electronic music and decided to try making electronic music starting from that time. Now, I have been making electronic music for almost 2 years and have produced some songs with awesome artists and fellow friends.

Q2 you released “Youth” with Lydia. Tell me more about this song.

Virion : Yep. Me and Andre, we planned to make a song and while we were deciding about who we would love to sing this song, we had none other than Lydia, who is a great artist with a euphonious voice. Then, we showed her the demo and for the theme, we decided that it would be great if we could encourage everyone to be cheerful and have the time of their lives even in this pandemic time. Lydia wrote the song after that and we could successfully produce the song on 9th October.

Andre : I recently released a song named "Youth" with Lydia and Virion. This song is for those who have been facing many problems and from this song, we want to give a message to live a better life without having stress and depression.

Q3 Tell me your favourite of the lyrics in this song?

Andre : My favorite one is
“Youth is such a wonderful thing.”
which i agree with coz i think while we are young, we should do the things we love and we should follow our dreams while we can.

Virion : Yep, for sure. My favorite one out of the whole lyrics is the one she sings in Myanmar,
“အရာရာလိုတိုင်း ရဖို့မဖြစ်နိုင်တွဲလောက,
ဘယ်အချိန်မှာ အဆိုးသတ်မလဲ မသိနိုင်တွဲ လူ့ဘဝ
အချိန်တေ့မ‌ေပြာင်းလဲ‌ေသးခင် လက်‌ရှိဘဝ မှာ‌ေပျာ်လိုက်”
which means we should do the things we love and enjoy our time while we can as youths like following our dreams in this world where we don’t know what might happen next without regretting about it in the future.

Interview with Su_Su

ーHow did you start producing?

It started in 2016. While I was a student in Bordeaux, France. I discovered the house/techno scene and quickly fell in love with it. Then it quickly got me inspired to start producing my own tracks.

ーHow did you come up with the idea of combines techno with traditional instruments?

Since I am half French and half Myanmar I wanted to show my identity through my music, by bringing the European electronic music world with the Myanmar traditional side.
Also, when I came back to Myanmar from France, I wanted to play mainly house and techno, but people here were used to other genres of music. So I thought that bringing in sounds that they can recognize could introduce them to this new genre.

ーHow did you start DJing?

I started Djing in small student house parties in France. Then my first real gigs started after I joined the Myoh Gawli group last year.

ーTell us about your first show and most memorable show in your DJ life?

My most memorable show was last year in a small club called Level 2 in Yangon Myanmar. It was my second show with the Myoh Gawli group and we were totally sold out! It was the first time that I played for a full house.

ーCommunication with fans is essential.
What is your relationship with social media?

In Myanmar, most people use Facebook over other social platforms. So I created a small Facebook private group with the closest fans to communicate with them on a daily basis. I give them ways to interact in my work by creating polls for song names or other things so they take part in my journey. I'm also creating some vlogs called "Hunting For Sounds" to show how I gather my samples to create my music.

ーAs Myanmar's economy grows, how is dance music scene there?

Since 2016 the music scene has been growing very fast! There has been a huge rise in the number of Festivals and club openings. Myanmar people love to party!

ーAny future plans you can share?

I will be expanding my Tech Series in Myanmar. My latest track Kayah Tech was made using instruments and vocals only found in Kayah State. Next, I intend to record Bagan, Chin, and all the other states in Myanmar.
I will also start a new series of more commercial music soon.

ーPlease leave a message for your fans in Japan!

I hope to come tour with the Myoh Gawli group very soon! 🖤

ーI really like Psychopath's remix! Tell me the episode of remix!

Wow!Thanks so much!Yeah it was really surprising cuz I don't usually listen and a big fan of Myanmar songs and yeah I heard from most of my fris and they request me to remix it.And then I listen to it and it was really really cool!I can literally hear the JohnDerek's chill and emotional voice and it is nothing like the songs that I have heard before. And I started to obsessed with it and I asked for remix stems in John's dm.And he replied me that day after the day.John is one of the kindest singers and he was really down and give me a chance to remix his track Psychopath. And I finished the rough idea in two days and have no ideas with the piano vibes so yeah I sent the idea to my fri Mridul Kala and he was already down to make tracks with me so he add his elements and some piano vibes and the remix was done in four days! And I sent to my fris for feedbacks before sending to John and I was really surpised of my fris feedbacks. And they told me to send to LITT ENT.and yeah because of John's help I got contact with the Label Founder and yeah he told us to fix something and he told us he will support it.I think the release date was April 14 I think and all of my fris are surprised and amazed that my remix is on Litt Ent.Got so many supports and it got uploaded on JOOX platform page!

Interview with Someone Else

ーYour new track "Never Let Me Go" is out. Tell me more about the new song.

This track is especially close to my heart because of one thing. I saw Kaiya's demo and was instantly mesmerized by the guitar intro, heavily inspired by one of my all time favourite videogames, called "Life is Strange", makes us feel like being in the tranquil setting of the fictional town of Arcadia Bay, Oregon. Made for the listener to delve into how amazing life can be when you live in the present moment without caring about the threads that bind reality and the innate desire to live a meaningful life and yet look back and reminisce about the great moments they experienced. Never Let Me Go is about love, friendship and the experience of life.

ーHow did you start producing?

I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old, coming from a family where music was a collective interest. My father listened to Electronic music from the post disco era and forward, from the 90s and so I have a world of influences about my music. a few years later, in 2010, I saw a YouTube video of someone who posted a remix of the song, "Settler Project - Le" and the software used was called "Fruity Loops 8".
I immediately downloaded the demo version and started playing around and cultivated an interest in electronic music production, mainly to make hip hop beats for me to rap on, as I wanted to become a Rapper at that point. Slowly I found myself going to other interests such as Filmmaking, Game Design, Web Development, etc. and music faded away for a while, then I picked it back up in early 2016, to help a friend of mine find his passion, and ended up making it mine, so that's my story!
After a number of aliases and experimentation, I settled for two main projects, "Color Sirens" for my experimental music and "Someone Else" for more mainstream stuff, and I formally debuted with a viral cover of the Netflix Theme of the Witcher, this year, in February 6, 2020.

ーWhere do you get your inspiration from when producing music?

As I already mentioned earlier, I was very much into music, electronic and otherwise, from a very young age, my taste like a vast ocean, from Boney M and Vengaboys, to Avenged Sevenfold, to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre and T.I., From Klaypex and Skrillex, to Aero Chord and Unknown Brain.
Being from the multicultural country of India, I also draw various influences from subcultures ranging from Arabic to Japanese styles and soundscapes, most of my music tastes developing from Videogame soundtracks, among other things like Industrial and Orchestral music. There's just so much more diverse stuff from me coming, so stay tuned about that!

ーTell me your branding / marketing tips!

When I finally decided on making my primary alias, "Someone Else", I was thrilled at the prospect because the name itself, was a brand. People will be like, "Yo! Is that him?", "Nah! That's Someone Else!", that sort of thing haha, and regarding marketing, I'd personally say any upcoming talent to look out and make meaningful connections with fellow producers, promoters and label guys. Everyone's down to earth and very helpful, or at least most people are.
Unofficially, the teen prodigy, Jaydon Lewis, got me into the industry and it's been incredible knowing such talented people in the last four years. Find your sound, be confident and true to yourself, explore and most importantly, take care of yourself. Making music is less than half of the journey, marketing is essential, you can either do it yourself or through labels. Always make wise choices and don't hesitate seeking help from others, always don't think twice about investing in yourself. It will pay off in the end.

ーWho would you like collab with next?

I've got a lot of interesting tunes coming, most notably the next cover release with the amazing and talented vocalist, Hellish, and possibly a couple tunes with Drama B and M.I.M.E, I've been looking to work with more amazing vocalists that I've recently met, like Caravn, Benni Hunnit, Atarii, Laurie Acckerman and others.
Producers that I'll be working with soon are Beutos, IMMENSE, Okvru, Coldhours and some more local talent that are very underrated at the moment. A dream come true would be to get a track on NCS with maybe Unknown Brain haha but that's the far future I'd say.

ーTell me your release plan!

The future I'd say, looks promising indeed, God is good!
I have a couple releases coming every month at this point on various labels, especially the label I'm a partner with, called "Seiromem". We've been working hard on getting you a lot of good tunes in the forseeable future, also stay tuned for releases on Tribal Trap, Magic Records and more!

I'd like to thank Kaho and the rest of the team at EDM Press for giving me this awesome opportunity so major shoutout to y'all. Arigato!
