This is about a plane attack aircraft / Ground Attack Aircraft - AC-130

Lockheed Martin AC-130 Spectre gunship is a variant of a ground attack aircraft of the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. This military aircraft was developed during the Vietnam War. The prototype was first flown in 1966. This variant was adopted by the US Air Force (USAF) in 1968.

This variant was designed to replace the position of the gunship Douglas AC-47 Spooky who has begun to age. A total of 47 units of the gunship AC-130, including variants, were converted from the transport aircraft C-130. In the year 2020, the aircraft variant will be even operational for 52 years. Due to the unique specifications of the aircraft, as well as its deadly abilities, the aircraft was never exported outside the United States.

The main role of this unusual aircraft is the support of close-range air shots. The aircraft can eliminate enemy positions (both infantry and armored), protect ground troops or control convoy. The aircraft can transmit accurate and continuous shots to one point on the ground. AC-130 gunships are currently operated by Special Operations Squadrons.

The aircraft is capable of flying faster than helicopters, operating at higher elevations, having a longer time circling in the target area, can carry much heavier weaponry and much more ammunition.

The weapon is mounted on the left side of the plane (port side). At the time of the attack, the plane flew in a large circle around the target. So the aircraft can shoot targets continuously in a longer span of time than helicopters, conventional ground attack aircraft, or multi-role combat aircraft.

Different variants of this aircraft have different weaponry. The early-air AC-130A was armed with a 7, 62mm Minigun and four 20mm M61 Vulcan calibre guns. The AC-130E and AC-130H aircraft which are the upgradeable versions, have a more powerful and more terrifying arsenal.

This variant was armed with two 20mm calibre gun tops, a single 40mm caliber Bofors gun and a single M102 calibre of 105mm. The existing AC-130U version was armed with a 25mm GAU-12 Equalizer gun, a 40mm calibre Bofors cannon and one M102 caliber 105mm howitzer.

Thus the short article about the AC-130 gunship.

Watch This Crazy Footage: F-35B Short Takeoff/Vertical Landing (Amazing Compilation)

The F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) variant is the world’s first supersonic STOVL stealth aircraft. It is designed to operate from austere bases and a range of air-capable ships near front-line combat zones. It can also take off and land conventionally from longer runways on major bases. The U.S. Marine Corps' F-35B aircraft reached initial operational capability (IOC) on July 31, 2015, and as of January 2017, a squadron of F-35Bs is permanently based at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.

The F-35B STOVL operation is made possible through the Rolls-Royce patented shaft-driven LiftFan® propulsion system and an engine that can swivel 90 degrees when in short takeoff/vertical landing mode. Because of the LiftFan®, the STOVL variant has a smaller internal weapon bay and less internal fuel capacity than the F-35A. It uses the probe-and-drogue method of aerial refueling.

F-35B aircraft have been delivered to the U.S. Marines and the UK. U.S. STOVL aircraft are stationed at the first operational F-35B base, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, where F-35B training is taking place. The first UK F-35Bs are located at RAF 17 Squadron, Edwards AFB, California, where operational testing is being conducted. The Italian Air Force will also operate the F-35B.
