Nice to be back doing a UN related project again. This time a narrative video about startups coming from Africa. Before the startups arrive we are interviewing potential investors from the Japan side whom they will be meeting.
The idea is to weave a documentary together about all the different protagonists showing how their needs and desires meet, or conflict!

A few days with storks (both real and decoy!) of Watarase basin north of Tokyo, speaking to rhe local city officials and NGOs about their conservation efforts, filming a project for Google.
Google seems serious about transitioning to water usage and sustainability broadly so it was a delight to work with them spreading the word about their work.

From our beginnings in weddings 10 years ago to our shift to commercial work now we have always been about the stories of the people we film. Easy to say but surprisingly hard to put into practice when you are shooting to a client’s brief, as opposed to a wedding film where we had absolute freedom. For tourism work most clients have just wanted a list of beauty shots with a few smiling locals for decoration. We have pushed for more - it’s the opposite. The local people and want they are doing, what they have to say is the main point, with some scenery for decoration.
The push back has been worth it finally we have some recent projects where the client is people-first from the start. Such a joy. Actually a lot of work! Sound becomes so important and that takes a bit more time to sort out on location. Editing takes more time as well as we put together a narrative from their stories.

It’s been out awhile but finally got the canon R5 C. Doing a lot of photo and video work recently so seemed a good match. Also a b cam to the C70 and a backup cam for photos on the R5
It really is tiny - just an R5 with a fan on the back.

Haven’t taken profile pictures in a while, but every time I do it is always more fun than I expect. Used to take pictures from a distance, not trying to snap moments without making a connection to who I was photographing, but now it is all about how we can get the picture together, although I still like to surprise person “how do you get that?!”

This year is the 10th year of Mt Fuji registered as a Cultural World Heritage. To commemorate this, we have been filming for Fujinomiya City, in both 360 and normal video. Because Mt Fuji is a cultural heritage we will also be filming shrines linked to the worship of Mt Fuji (did you know that the area above the 8th station is actually under the administration of the shrine?) but today was the sunrise from Mt Fuji. The third time we have climbed this year - finally got the shots we wanted.
