Wonderful to see this great ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of The Realization in UkVibe!

https://ukvibe.org/album_reviews/john-borge-askeland/

“The Realization” sparkles with a freshness that is a joy to hear. It seems to revel in taking the Nordic sound as we know it and twisting it with a wondrous musical intelligence. It’s fun whilst still being sincere. John Børge Askeland leads with intent, and the resulting recording brings the best out of the A-list musicians involved.

NEW ALBUM OUT!

Atle Nymo Trio - Circle Steps (CD/Digital)

Atle Nymo Trio’s second album «Circle Steps» promises to captivate listeners with its unique blend of jazz and improvisational music.

Circle Steps tells a story about seeing something from several sides, movement - up and down, moving but remaining in the same place. It is also describing the structure of the song, the title track itself. The material most often revolves around simple melodic motifs that give room for development through joint musicianship.

The band originates from Nymo's desire to play in a melodic, open context in the trio format. The mix with Mats Eilertsen and Michaela Antalová gives the trio a large palette of sounds, and together with Nymo form a distinctive and highly communicative band with a strong focus on timbre and sound image.

NEW ALBUM OUT!

John Børge Askeland - The Realization (CD/Digital)

John Børge Askeland grew up by Sognefjorden and his education background includes, amongst other things, the jazz program at NTNU and composition studies at the Oslo University College.

Throughout his life he has always composed and is convinced that his childhood, where he was surrounded by majestic nature, has influenced his music. Tall mountains, peace and quiet, mighty deep fjords, and the heavy thick fog which often lies over the fjord far down the mountainsides are all reflected in his compositions.

Throughout the years he has contributed on productions as a bassist, arranger, and composer, but this marks his debut in publishing music under his own name.

“When I compose I come closer to my own self, also to the realization that all our good intentions do not always lead to something good. That which can cause us to harm ourselves, each other, and nature,” he says. The music is characterised by honesty, truth, and a plead for reconciliation between us humans and the creation we are so dependent on.

Some of the music was first created as liturgical components that here have been reworked to fit the ensemble. He has chosen to preserve the original titles such as, Kyrie, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, which precisely challenge reckoning and realization.

“In realization lies a fine balance between discovery and humility”, he believes, a combination that gives room for creativity. When he invites other musicians to his compositions, he finds it important to meet each other with respect so that they together can discover and create in the magical moment of collaboration. In many ways they are searching for the realization together. Playing together gives insight, it mirrors, it challenges and affirms.

Arve Henriksen and Helge Andreas Norbakken are acquaintances from their student days where they collaborated frequently. He tells that the way they play with vulnerability and great presence has never left him, rather it has colored his expression as a composer. Eyolf Dale is a newer connection. His sparkling, yet delicate piano playing greatly affects this release. He never dips into melancholy despite its prevalence in the compositions, which creates a beautiful tension in the music. He has had precisely these musicians in mind while composing. He is ever grateful for the musicians’ contribution and the exceptional way in which they have approached the material.

CHECK OUT OUR LASTEST ALBUM!

Jakob Park Trio - A Life in a Major Key

(CD/Digital)

The critically acclaimed Danish-Korean pianist and composer
Jakob Park releases his 5th studio album entitled ’Life in a Major Key’ with a unique purpose : The cultural exchange between Scandinavian Jazz Artists and the Japanese listeners who are widely known for a subtle taste and genuine interest in jazz, Scandinavian arts and European culture.

’Life in a Major Key’ consists of 10 original compositions with a jazzy approach but also with some notes of pop music and Scandinavian singer-song-writer tradition. There is a certain kind of Japanese minimalistic serenity and a particular Scandinavian melancholy that penetrates the entire album. A serenity that comes natural for the composer born in the outskirts of Seoul but raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he currently lives.

The album features some of Europe’s absolute top jazz musicians with Jesper Bodilsen showing his qualities and talents on the bass and drummer Morten Lund executing his subtle musicianship which gives the piano trio an air of poetic realism. Saxophonist Nicolai Schultz and vocalist Clara Vuust also contribute to this album with some very delicate and refined voices and notes that makes the album intriguing, fascinating and divers with a desire to explore not only the harmonic landscapes but also intellectual reflections on human nature. The sound of the album is typical Scandinavian as it mixes impressions of local cultures and a certain Scandinavian approach to creating jazz music.

Today is a very exciting day! Arc Recordings proudly presents the first release of our catalogue, John Pål Inderberg Trio - Radio fra ura!

On their third album ‘Radio fra ura’, John Pål Inderberg trio puts emphasis on highlighting the connection between the verbal and the musical language. The trio is inspired by two great Norwegian authors; Kristofer Uppdal and Edvard Hoem. They each read their own lyrics and the trio provide musical commentary on these tracks. In addition, Ragnhild Vannebo performs excerpts from Hoem’s novel ‘Felemakaren’. The attentive listener will experience tonal changes in the female voice which also gives drummer Mjåset Johansen rhythmic ideas for his interaction with Vannebo. Inderberg has in his composition ‘Radio fra ura’ used a verbal language with sound and rhythm as supporting elements for the interaction with bassist Fiske and Mjåset Johansen. Kurt Schwitter’s poem ‘Ursonate’ functions as a framework of musical form for ‘Radio fra ura’. The visual artist Håkon Bleken was inspired by ‘Haugtussa’ (Arne Garborg/Edvard Grieg) during the work of ‘Head’, featured on the cover of this LP. ‘Haugtussa’ embodies the mysterious Norwegian folk tradition, which is something that the trio carries on by extracting musical material from Nordic traditional music in combination with clear African-American rooted sources.

We are looking forward to launch right after this summer with John Pål Inderberg Trio's new (their third) album Radio fra ura!
A unique album that puts emphasis on highlighting the connection between the verbal and the musical language.

This is a very nice way to initiate and introduce lots of Norwegian culture at once to the Japanese audience!

Poetry by Edvard Hoem and Kristofer Uppdal and a very strong cover image painted by Håkon Bleken. Of course, fantastic playing by John Pål, Trygve Waldemar Fiske on bass and Håkon Mjåset Johansen on the drums!

Thanks again to Oli at Split Design for the great effort and cooperation with the design work!
