Feeling very proud that our movie was one of the big winners at the 013CIFF. It’s been a lot of hard work and we are not done yet, but it’s also been a lot of fun. We made many new friends and we’d like to thank Jack, Paul, Jasper, Francisca, Lisa and all of the other staff, volunteers and people behind the scenes who worked so hard to turn this festival into the success it was. Thank you for supporting filmmakers through your wonderful festival!
A big thank you, also, to the audience who came out to see the movies. Without you it would have been a lot less fun!

Over all it was a really good time, great atmosphere and nice people.

For those of you who haven’t seen our movie “Boneless Lantern” yet, there will be another showing today at 14:00 with one last chance to meet the director, Nadeshiko Koba, in person during a Q & A session right after the movie.
So, please come to the CineCitta film theater in Tilburg. See you there!

Over the years we have recorded almost any genre of music and a wide variety of sound sources for multiple projects.
However, we had never before been asked to record “Enka”. But now, after having worked in Japan for about 16 years, we finally got to record our first Enka artist!

How do you record singer-songwriters?
We like this method where we record the guitar with 5 microphones that we can mix to taste:
1. Neumann KM185 (left)
2. Neumann KM185 (right)
3. AKG C414 (center mic 1)
4. Neumann M149 tube (center mic 2)
5. Coles 4038 (center mic 3)

And then we record the vocals with a Neumann U47 fet.

We find that this method gives a very organic and realistic representation of the live performance of the singer-songwriter and leaves enough options open for the mix.

We’d be very interested to hear how you do it. So, if you have good way of recording singer-songwriters, please leave your method in the comments below.

KINDNESS

Today I went out with my kids to visit some record stores. It was not raining when we left the car parking, so we decided to take our chances of going outside without an umbrella. However, once we were outside it started to rain cats and dogs.
Without an umbrella, and with the rain pouring down on us, we attempted to cross the road as quickly as we could in the hope to find shelter from the rain. While we were doing so, a man, crossing the same road from the opposite direction, stretched out his arm which was holding his umbrella and said, “Here, take mine.”
Obviously we thanked the man and we felt really grateful for his kindness and this wonderful gesture. But I’m still stunned by how beautiful and kind this was. I have no way of reaching this guy, so I can’t thank him again. However, I think we can all learn from his kindness and make the world a better place by helping strangers selflessly in this kind of way.
