ST.ANN'S BAY HOSPITAL WARDS RECOMMENDATIONS

Open letter to the Ministry Of Health and Wellness (MOHW) and North East Health Regional Authority(NEHRA)

Dear All ,

On my daily visits to the St.Ann's Bay Hospital to the Female Medical Ward and the other wards, these are my observation and recommendations for the five major wards:

●AC units needed - From my observation of all the wards they are badly in need of AC units especially for the newly built Female Medical Ward .

●Chairs for every bed - From my observation from all the wards the availability of Chairs are limited. I believe every vacant bad space should have atleast one chair for family members to visit .

●Increase visitors - It is understandable why hospital don't want the wards to be overcrowded but the current system of one visitor per patient is very harsh especially for a huge family . I believe it should be two person per patient . Not all families and friends are united hence only one person having the last moment with a patient sometimes will cause problems.

●Government ID presented by visitors - A visitor with bad intention could be a Security risk to the Hospital and they could provide a name that ain't theirs.

●Limited spaces - Male Surgical Ward space wise is too packed . Clearly an extention of the ward is warranted.

●Name tags for employees - All employees should have a visible name tag for the public to see.

●Automatic Hand Dryers - Over the handwashing areas the Hospital should have automatic hand dryers and automatic handwashers .They are more hygenic than the current manual service .

Inclosing customer service on the wards is good . The most important needed for the wards are AC units . The units don't have to be very cold like the ones in Outpatient and A&E Department . Alot of social media users all over Jamaica may have the same concern re:wards hence I am asking the Health Ministry to improve the wards. It is time for wards in the rural areas of Jamaica wards should have elevators for patients . Instead of extending the wards horizontally they should be extended vertically .

Kind Regards,

REPORT & RECOMMENDATION RE:ST.ANN'S BAY HOSPITAL ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY(A&E) DEPARTMENT ‼️‼️

OPEN LETTER HEALTH MINISTER CHRIS TUFTON ,NEHRA CHAIRMAN AND ST.ANN'S BAY HOSPITAL CEO

It is my humble opinion that if I have 5-percentage chance to live it is best I stay home and die than go to the St.Ann's Bay Hospital Accident and Emergency unit . I worked their as a Security Guard in the past and to be honest I don't see any change in that department . But yet still I see changes in outpatient and the pharmacy department re:speed and communication . This is my recent story/experience with the St.Ann's Bay Hospital.

REPORT

On Tuesday April 2, at approximately 9pm I takeover duty from my sister and her friend to keep an eye on my mother . Who was brought in by them in the morning re:appointment but ended up at emergency . My biggest issues is with some of the female nurses in that department . The doctors aren't so bad the nurses their seems like they don't want patients or relatives to ask question . First when you go to their station area it seems like you are interupting or bothering them . Sometimes I wonder if they read the patience docket because they never give clear answers. From my observation of that department is the the nurses run that department it seems like the doctors are powerfuless or have to be begging nurses to do a dressing or to give patience their medicine or even try to walk the floor regularly to see if they missed anyone . I was their from 9pm last night and my mother finally got a bed on the female ward around 10am this morning . She only got the bed when I decided to take her out of room 3 and put her in front of them in a wheel chair and walked out on them . All of a sudden a nurse want me to feel guilty by saying you can't walkout on a relative when other persons told me that I can leave but I never left because I know the lazy nurses would've let a bed ridden patient fellout of a wheelchair . But it sad she only got a bed when I basically left for outside and stop being nice and quiet with them .

Taking myself out of this situation for now I have seen an elderly man alone there in a wheelchair and ever minute he tries to standup and most times is the patients or relatives have to say "daddy" please sit back down . That elderly man could've dropped several times and hurt himself. A "mental" female patient was on the ward asking for her assistance because she her monthly until she took it upon herself get up off the bed in sheets cursing the entire night. Even though she has mental issue but she was correct by saying if you sit down at A&E trying to follow the rules you will take years to get through because for some reason is like the department don't have someone to roam the floor to communicate with persons . The "mental" patient was finally injected around 7-8 am this morning and placed on the ward but the lady was up and down when I know the Hospital employs mental aids.

That department is pattyshop. I urge the minister to send a black patient their as undercover to observe what's going on . If persons had the right to bring their phones and record what's going on ,then I believe things would've been different. Yes I know some persons from the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department will argue that they need more staffs but that don't make you have to have attitude or try not want to understand what a patient or relative is saying . Persons like me sat for the entire night because we had no option but to stomach being ignored or being forgotten by persons who believe you need to begged or apologize for being a concern relative . I went their heard she will be admitted then in the night I was told she won't be admitted again then to be told she will be admitted but they waiting on bed space at the female ward but when I decided not to be ignored anymore they found a bed space for her on the ward . Again I know they will argue that they can't give away all bed spaces because they have to have some in reserve for emergency cases .

It sounds a way but if you speak well and look different it seems like you are treated differently. But it seems like if you are a nobody they forgot you .Even a worker from NSWMA who met in accident and was there from the night in a wheelchair started cursing in the morning saying no-one is paying him any attention obviously the man was in pain . Another patient whose neck was broken every minute he take off the neck brace on the bed .

Before I close this report, I am very concern about an elderly female on the Emergency ward who seems she was left there by her family . The Hospital need to do something about she's in state care now but her being on A&E ward for maybe weeks is not a good look . To the family I know times tough and taking care of an elderly is not easy but abandoning them is not the way to go . I stood over her and I could see happiness for awhile because maybe she thought someone in her family came for her but you could see sadness when she realize she don't recognize the stranger looking . Message to relatives please wait until your love one gets a bed space first before you leave because dog probably eat their supper.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I am not only good at point out the problem but finding Solutions.

●All employees should have a big name tag on their uniforms for the public to commend the good ones and report the bad ones .

●Customer Service Training Courses from Doctor down to even the porter schedule for work at the A&E Department.

●Employee additional nurses and doctors or rotate the problem ones .

●Have atleast two persons to roam the floor to communicate and update relatives and patients . If that was happening the likelihood of persons "bothering" the medical professionals at their working station would be limited .

●Have proper handover and takeover when starting or ending a shift so even if the staff need to come in 30 minutes before shift starts I realize for the same patient a doctor will be asking you what's happening so sometimes you even left confused .

●Have an employee of month award for the A&E Department.

Inclosing I hope to see the Accident and Emergency Department in St.Ann's Bay be into the best in Jamaica and stop the pattyshop and feelings business . St.Ann's Bay have a suggestion and report box so to you the public stop sitting and hoping for the best time to write ,call and use social media to change things . The only thing these medical professionals can do is spite me or my relatives but it is what it is . If you are a patient or have a relative as patient you can inbox me your concerns using public Health Facilities in Jamaica . I am pro-free Health Care but the major disadvantage is persons have to suffer in silence because it is "free" so is like we shouldn't have rights .

Kind Regards ,

LABOURITES MESSAGE TO THE JLP RE:ROBERT NESTA MORGAN - THEY WANT HIM GONE ‼️‼️

We the concerned citizens of North Central Clarendon is writing this letter to you (Most Honorable, Prime Minister Mr Andrew Holiness , Mr Michael Stern of Area Council 3 and General Secretary ,Mr Horace Chang) that based on the survey done on the constituency our current Member of Parliament , Mr Robert Morgan cannot lead the party to a victory in the upcoming elections. Based on the information received the citizens are unwilling to vote for Mr Morgan. We have sent previous notice to Mr Stern informing him of the status of constituency. Currently the Jamaica Labor Party is in a precarious position in North Central Clarendon as citizens are stating their displeasure with Mr Morgan. Some complain of his high handed behavior, his unwillingness to listen to the grassroot citizens and his lack in communication with the citizens. The local government election was a signal to the party of our shortcomings. If it was not for the councillors of the Rock River division and the Chapelton division the opposition would have control over the constituency. As such, we cannot use Mr Morgan for the upcoming election as he will not get the support of most of the members of the constituency. We implore you to take this matter into serious consideration as failure to do so will lead to disaster
