Blessed earthstrong SUPERCAT ! 🔥🇯🇲🔥

Super Cat (born William Maragh in , Jamaica, 25 June 1963) is one of the originators of the late 80's and early 90's movement. A reggae musician who came to prominence in the late 1980s and even more so in the early 1990s, is of Jamaican and Indian descent. His nickname, the " " was given to him by his mentor .

His first single as was entitled 'Mr. Walker' and was a hit in . His song 'Boops' came soon after with the release of his debut album ' Si Boops Dey' and was a massive hit that spawned hundreds of responses and cemented him a place in history. He put his name in the history books and knotched a place in US music scene with the album . The album featured heavyweights in the arena such as and B.I.G. Songs like Don Dada, Dolly My Baby and Ghetto Red Hot are considered classics. Controversy has always surrounded his career. For example with the death of the popular reggae artist , killed in a murky incident in , New York City. He also had an infamous incident in a Sting stage show performance with then rival .

Super Cat had a number of hit singles in the early 1990s, including "Don Dada" and "Ghetto Red Hot," "Dem No Worry Me" with Heavy D and "Alright" with Kris Kross. These hits made him The Source magazine dancehall artist of the year in 1993. He was also an early collaborator with The B.I.G., featuring the then unknown artist (along with and ) on the B-side remix of "Dolly My Baby" in 1993. The title song, 'Don Dada' was a reply to many jabs made by Ninjaman.

Super Cat was featured on the number one hit "Fly", a 1997 single by from their platinum album. He collaborated with India Arie on her hit song "Video" in 2001 and with and the on "The Don Of Dons" in 2003. Following the death of his long time road manager Fred 'The Thunder' Donner in 2004, Super Cat released a multi-cd tribute album entitled "Reggaematic Diamond All-Stars" that featured contributions from , , , and among others.
The recent track, “Push Time,” found the deejay reconnecting with producer , whose breaks-heavy remix of the song “Ghetto Red Hot” first helped Super Cat connect with an audience outside of reggae.
Over the years, Cat has established himself as something of a fashion icon, developing a personal style vocabulary that incorporates the silk vests and double-breasted suits of a Prohibition-era gangster with the bandanas and fatigues of a guerilla soldier, mixing bling with fur caps and Navajo-inspired Ganado prints that keep with his Wild Apache stage persona “When you go out, it’s showtime,” Cat says of his personal style, “so you don’t look less than showtime.”

Please help me wish Supercat more life and riches in the comments .

Credit Suisse named handbags one of the best collectible investments for 2023, beating out art and jewellery in resale value. Analysts found that the average value of designer purses has increased by 92% in the last decade, whereas art increased by 84% and jewellery by 53%.

The handbag market size was valued at US$48.70 billion in 2021. It is projected to reach US$78.85 billion by 2030.

Since the pandemic, luxury handbags by Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and other brands have been among the fastest-growing assets among collectors. A classic mid-size Chanel 2.55 bag (24x16x7cm) now costs €9,700 or nearly US$11,000, a third more than before the pandemic and double its price a decade ago.

To put things in perspective, that is JM$1.7 million for a relatively small handbag.

In 2022 Chanel shattered profit records; its sales rose by at least 17% exceeding US$17 billion, which was 23% more than before the pandemic.

It was the same for the Bernard Arnault LVMH conglomerate, which earned €79.2 billion; Louis Vuitton generated €20 billion, which set a new all-time record.

So, while the world was bracing for a recession then, the super luxury market thrived, which led analysts to forecast that luxury handbags were recession-proof.

For example, in 2021, Christie’s sold a Hermès Matte White Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Diamond Retourné Kelly 28 with 18K white gold and diamond hardware for US$515,416, becoming the most valuable handbag ever sold at auction.

With the heaviest of hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beloved Aston "Familyman" Barrett after a long medical battle. This morning, the world lost not just an iconic musician and the backbone of The Wailers but a remarkable human being whose legacy is as immense as his talent. Our family is asking for privacy during this challenging time, as words cannot express our profound loss.

Aston Barrett was the original bassist for Bob Marley and The Wailers, a pioneer, a mentor, and most importantly, a true family man. His contributions to music were recognized with multiple honors:

- In 2012, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Bass Player Magazine.
- In 2020, he was selected as the number-one bassist by the staff of Bass Player Magazine, in their ranking of "20 legendary players who shaped the sound of electric bass."
- In 2021, he was honored with the Order of Distinction (Commander class) in the National Honours and Awards on Jamaica’s 59th Anniversary of Independence.

Aston's music brought joy to millions, and his influence on reggae is beyond measure. He was a man of few words, but his words carried wisdom, kindness, and love. His bass lines were not just the foundation of The Wailers' music but the heartbeat of a genre that has touched hearts around the globe.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of the journey with us. Your love, support, and kind words have been a source of strength during this difficult time. Let us remember Familyman for the legend he was and the incredible memories he has given us. In his own words, "The older the moon, the brighter it shines," a reminder of the enduring light he shared with us all, shining brighter with each passing day.

Rest in peace, Familyman. Your legacy will live on forever in our hearts and through the music you've left us. We love you and will miss you deeply.

Legendary dancehall superstar Shaggy is expressing his anger at music executive Murray Elias for his derogatory comments about dancehall artists emerging out of Jamaica. Shaggy, in an exclusive interview with World Music Views, criticized Elias for unfair and non-credible assessments of dancehall artists’ sales performance in the marketplace, emphasizing that Elias’ opinion should not be taken seriously as he is not relevant in the present music industry.

“Dancehall has always been and is less than 5% of the global market share, but dancehall is more known now than it was in the 90s,” Shaggy said.

Elias, who initially commented on a post by WMV, labeled dancehall artists, including Shenseea, Skillibeng, Byron Messia, and Teejay, as one-hit wonders and flops saying, “Afrobeats artists are better songwriters, better singers, better artists than anything coming out of Jamaica. And by better, I mean more commercial on an international crossover level,” Elias said.

Shaggy strongly objected to those claims and disputes Murray Elias’s revisionist history regarding the onset of the dancehall revolution in America.

Dancehall artist Popcaan dropped a surprise mixtape on Christmas Day titled “Best Mood” under his Unruly Entertainment label.

Although the project is a late Christmas independent release, Popcaan’s management says he is still signed to Drake’s OVO Sound and Warner Music.

“This is an Unruly Entertainment project, not a label project,” and says “he is able to release this project on his label just as he is able to release other songs,” Popcaan’s manager told WMV.

The mixtape comes after Popcaan’s fifth studio album ‘Great Is He,’ released on January 27, debuted at no. 3 on the Billboard Reggae albums chart.

According to data received from Luminate (formerly MRC Data), “Great Is He” sold a total of 23,000 units in 12 weeks, with 500 being pure album sales.

An additional 8 tracks were added for the Deluxe version, causing the album to re-enter the US Billboard Reggae albums chart for the week ending April 14, 2023, securing the No. 8 position.

The collaboration-heavy project initially sold 3,200 album equivalent units in its first week, including 300 pure album copies fueled by the success of 5 singles.

“Best Mood” features 15 tracks with production from Dre Skull (Freaky Gyal), Red Boom, Anju Blaxx (Best Mood) Unruly Ent., Atto, Mini E5 (My Honey, This Week), Fanatx (Work Settings), Travis Ynad (Tequila Shots Remix).

Fans can expect the Unruly Boss’ sixth studio album in the summer of 2024. “He is dropping a new album in 2024 with OVO for the summer,” confirms Popcaan’s management to WMV.
