Firenze , presentazione nuove annate delle varie doc Chianti diverse dal Chianti Classico, e del ; ci ha colpito la freschezza e l'eleganza dei vini di alcune aziende del Chianti Rufina, le cui vigne, situate ad una maggiore altitudine, ed esposte ad una ventilazione settentrionale più fresca, producono alccuni Chianti con ottima beva, erbaceei ma di grande eleganza; altrettanto ci ha sorpreso la salinità e la freschezza di alcuni dei Morellini di Scansano, che bilanciano la potenza e la struttura del Sangiovese coltivato in Maremma, con i sentori mediterranei che le brezze marine apportano

Torno da Montalcino pieno di tristezza, dopo aver, solo oggi, a distanza di un mese, aver appreso la notizia della scomparsa di Lionel Cousin, un vero "vigneron" francese trapiantato a Montalcino, produttore a mio avviso di un Brunello che tra tanti altri di ottimo livello, si staglia sulla sommità della vetta; sarà stato per il suo charme d'oltralpe che sempre mi ha affascinato, per il suo passato e il mio presente, in fieri, di documentarista, e infine per il suo OMBRONE, un IGT che porta il nome di un fiume con cui da maremmano sono legato, fra le migliaia di produttori che nella ventennale attività di wine journalist e organizzatore di wine tour ho incontrato, si era creato fra noi un epidermico rapporto di affetto e simpatia...e molto da lui sul vino ho imparato ; se come dice il motto "La vita è troppo breve per bere vini cattivi", i vini che Lionel ha prodotto, si è bevuto nella sua neanche tanto breve vita, e ci fatto bere, sono pura "poesia in bottiglia" capace di far comunicare la mente col Divino; spero che ci rincontreremo da qualche parte a degustare ancora il tuo nettare dionisiaco, un abbraccio

LET'S KEEP CALM AND DRINK !!!

DESPITE CORONA VIRUS, A JOYFUL CROWD GATHERED IN MONTALCINO FOR , TASTING THE FABULOUS 2015 VINTAGE

Benvenuto Brunello 2020 ( = Welcome Brunello!), the event which on Sunday 23 February, concluded as usual the yearly cheerful "kermesse" of the Wines of Tuscany Preview, widely covered by The Wine Republic of Italy, despite corona virus, brought back to Montalcino the capital of Brunello, in a sunny early spring weekend, thousands of journalists, traders and wine lovers, from all over the world, to taste the new 2015 vintage;
During the event, as every year, the evaluation of the last harvest was also announced: the vintage 2019 was awarded the highest score, 5 stars... and 5, as the Brunello disciplinary established, are unfortunately the years that we will have to wait for this young Sangiovese to evolve and, thanks to its important, ripe tannin, become hopefully a great Brunello; in the meantime, we look forward to Benvenuto Brunello 2021 to taste at least Rosso di Montalcino 2019, produced as well with Sangiovese grapes, but generally harvested in the youngest vineyards; for this reason the Rosso, a younger, fresher, less demanding but pleasant wine, has gained the reputation of "Baby Brunello";
5 are also the Olympic circles on the new ceramic tile, presented by the President of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, , and by that of the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) , dedicated to the 2019 vintage and the next Tokyo Olympics, where, corona virus permitting, athletes will be able to toast their successes with a glass of good Brunello, which, as is well known, kills also corona viruses!! The tile has been walled up, as every year since 1992, on the wall of the medieval building where the Municipality of Montalcino is located, together with the previous ones, each year designed by a famous artist, VIP or celebrity;
In conversation with the press, President Bindocci then focused on the vintage being tasted this year in the Cloister of the Church of Sant'Agostino: "a great year the 2015! the result of a particularly favorable season, with an excellent relationship between tannic structure and acidity, a long aromatic persistence both on the nose and on the palate; and above all, a vintage that in less than two months from entering the market, is already half sold: 5 million out of 10 million bottles! " "These data" continues Bindocci "make producers forget the problems of the vintage 2014, presented last year, considerably lower both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view, even assessed as not complying with the standards required to produce the Riserva which in fact is not present in the today tasting ". I would add, data, which also remind us that wine is a living thing, the quality of which certainly depends on the skill of each individual producer but also, and above all on Mother Nature and the trend of the seasons;
Me too was impressed by the general softness of the tannin, the freshness, the pleasant sapidity, the elegance, the cleanliness, the wide range of aromas and scents, and finally the balanced structure of most of the wines i have tasted; as proof that even the angular and tannic Sangiovese, the only grape with which by law Brunello can be produced, if processed with care, can produce long-lived wines excellent to drink but also wines expressing the territory as is this 2015 vintage; a vintage that proves ready from now, but certainly able to evolve and face aging for several years;
Many the wineries i tasted, almost all of them perfect! Even and above all, the organic or bio-dynamic ones, which, having now learned how to eliminate the typical defects of natural wines, such as the acetic volatile, not only produce healthier wines, but also, in my opinion, the most intriguing and fascinating ones;
To mention just a few of the many tastings: owned by (Illy coffee !!!), bio-dynamic company, new entry in Montalcino, who, only 4 years ago, opened his fantastic helical cellar, designed according to the "golden section" as the architects of the Renaissance used, on the east side of Montalcino, the one that goes down to the Monte Amiata, cooler and more ventilated; on the same side, of his brother ; owned by Laura Brunelli; or, just outside Montalcino, Pavone, historical bio-dynamic company that experiments in the cellar the "vibrational" waves of classical music for the aging of wines; in the same area, di , historical producer "ilcinese" DOC (which in Italian would sound IL CINESE = THE CHINESE...instead is the proper adjective that calls the inhabitants of Montalcino), who shows off a beautiful white beard worthy of some Indian guru; instead, on the southwest side, warmer and exposed to the winds of the sea that bring salinity, , an interesting experimenter who, with his project 43 ° parallel North, tries to assemble vines of various nations that grow on the same parallel as Montalcino, where however it produces a micro quantity of an excellent Brunello; and of course his neighbor , one of Brunello's historical companies; and further down, going down towards Sant'Angelo in Colle and towards the confluence of the rivers Orcia and Ombrone, , , a true French "vigneron", who landed many years ago in Montalcino, in our opinion a "master"; or the nearby 'Orcia, the historic cellar of and of the or ;
Finally a surprise! by chance the last winery tasted at the end of the day, which woke up our poor numbed tongue, and let me experience a real emotion: 's Franci Franca farm; he owns various Montalcino wine bars and wine shops, but also produces an excellent Brunello ... we will go back to taste his wines, in the meantime LET'S KEEP CALM AND DRINK BRUNELLO!!

LET'S KEEP CALM AND DRINK BRUNELLO!

Montalcino, al Benvenuto Brunello 2020 in degustazione la grande annata 2015 ma nessuna riserva 2014; assegnate 5 stelle all'ultima vendemmia 2019 che assaggeremo purtroppo... solo nel 2024

Con il tradizionale Benvenuto Brunello, che, in un weekend soleggiato di anticipata primavera, alla faccia del coronavirus, ha richiamato a Montalcino, migliaia di persone, tra giornalisti, operatori del settore e wine lovers, da tutto il mondo per assaggiare la nuova annata 2015, si è chiusa Domenica 23 febbraio, l'allegra kermesse delle Anteprime dei vini di Toscana 2020;
Durante la manifestazione, come ogni anno, è stata resa nota anche la valutazione dell'ultima vendemmia, la 2019, a cui è stata assegnato il massimo punteggio, ben 5 stelle su 5...e 5 sono purtroppo gli anni che dovremo aspettare perché questo giovane Sangiovese (così stabilisce il disciplinare del Brunello) si evolva e, grazie ai suoi importanti tannini, maturi, si affini e diventi, ci auguriamo, un grande Brunello; nel frattempo, aspettiamo con impazienza il Benvenuto Brunello 2021 per assaggiare almeno il Rosso di Montalcino 2019, prodotto sempre con uve Sangiovese, raccolte in genere nei vigneti più giovani; per questo il Rosso, vino giovane, più fresco, meno impegnativo ma piacevole, si è guadagnato la fama di Baby Brunello;
E sono 5 anche i cerchi olimpici sulla formella di ceramica, presentata dal Presidente del Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino, Fabrizio Bindocci, e da quello del CONI (Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano) Giovanni Malagò, dedicata alla vendemmia 2019 e alle prossime olimpiadi di Tokyo, dove, sempre coronavirus permettendo, gli atleti potranno brindare a propri successi con un bicchiere di buon Brunello; la formella è stata murata come ogni anno a partire dal 1992, sul muro del palazzo medievale dove ha sede il Comune di Montalcino, insieme alle precedenti, realizzate da artisti o personaggi della cultura;
Conversando con la stampa il Presidente Bindocci, si è poi soffermato sull'annata in degustazione nel Chiostro della Chiesa di Sant'Agostino: "un'annata storica la 2015, frutto di una stagione particolarmente favorevole, con ottimo rapporto tra struttura tannica e acidità, e lunga persistenza aromatica sia al naso che al palato; e soprattutto un'annata che in meno di due mesi dall’entrata sul mercato, è già per metà venduta: 5 milioni su 10milioni di bottiglie!" " sono dati" prosegue Bindocci "che ripagano i produttori dai problemi dell'annata precedente, la 2014, notevolmente inferiore sia dal punto di vista quantitativo che qualitativo, valutata addirittura non conforme agli standard previsti per produrre la Riserva che infatti non è presente in degustazione". Sono dati aggiungerei, che ci ricordano anche che il vino è una cosa viva, la cui qualità dipende certo dalla maestria di ogni singolo produttore ma anche, e soprattutto da Madre Natura e dall'andamento delle stagioni;
Anche a me, durante gli assaggi, ha colpito la generale morbidezza dei tannini, la freschezza, la piacevole sapidità, l'eleganza, la pulizia, la vasta gamma di aromi e sentori, e infine l'equilibrata struttura; a riprova che anche lo spigoloso e tannico Sangiovese, la sola uva con cui per legge si può produrre il Brunello, se vinificato con cura, può produrre vini longevi ma di pronta e ottima beva ma anche vini espressione del territorio come è questa annata 2015; un annata che si dimostra pronta fin da adesso, ma certamente in grado di evolvere e affrontare l’invecchiamento ancora per diversi anni;
Tante le cantine assaggiate, quasi tutte perfette; anche e soprattutto quelle biologiche o biodinamiche, che, avendo ormai imparato ad eliminare i caratteristici difetti come la volatile acetica, che caratterizzava spesso i vini naturali, non solo producono vini più sani, ma anche più intriganti e di forte personalità;
Per citare solo alcuni dei tantissimi assaggi: Podere Le Ripi di Francesco Illy (Illy caffè!!!), azienda biodinamica, new entry a Montalcino, dove solo tre anni fà ha terminato la costruzione sul versante est di Montalcino, quello che scende verso il Monte Amiata, più fresco e ventilato, di una fantastica cantina elicoidale, progettata in base alla "sezione aurea" come usavano gli architetti del Rinascimento; sullo stesso versante, Mastroianni di suo fratello Riccardo Illy; Gianni Brunelli di Laura Brunelli; oppure subito fuori Montalcino, Loacker, storica azienda bio-dinamica che sperimenta in cantina le onde "vibrazionali" della musica classica per l'invecchiamento dei vini; nella stessa zona, Albatreti di Gaetano Salvioni, storico produttore "ilcinese" DOC (che in Italiano suonerebbe IL CINESE ma che invece è l'aggettivo che correttamente denomina gli abitanti Montalcino), che sfoggia una bellissima barba bianca degna di qualche guru indiano; invece, sul versante sud-ovest, più caldo ed esposto ai venti del mare che apportano salinità, Roberto Cipresso, interessante sperimentatore che col suo progetto 43° parallelo Nord, prova ad assemblare vitigni di varie nazioni che crescono però sullo steso parallelo di Montalcino, dove comunque produce una micro quantità di un ottimo Brunello; e ovviamente il suo vicino Lisini, una delle aziende storiche del Brunello; e più in giù, scendendo verso Sant'Angelo in Colle e verso la confluenza dei fiumi Orcia e Ombrone, Cupano di Lionel Cousin, un vero "vigneron" francese, sbarcato tanti anni fa a Montalcino, a nostro avviso un maestro; o le vicine Col d'Orcia, storica cantina di Francesco Marone Cinzano e Sesti del Castello di Argiano o Collemattoni;j
chiudiamo infine con una scoperta, per caso l'ultima cantina assaggiata a fine giornata, la quale, non ostante la bocca fosse divenuta ormai quasi insensibile, ci ha regalato una forte emozione: l'azienda agricola Franci Franca di Fabio Tassi, proprietraio di varie enoteche e wine bar di Montalcino, ma anche piccolo produttore in proprio di un ottimo Brunello...torneremo presto ad assaggiarlo. Intanto, passeremo un paio di settimane di buen retiro, qui nell'eremo Chiantigiano, dove il buon vino non manca, ne le tante cose da fare, sperando che il Chianti e il Brunello abbiano fatto fuori anche i coronavirus che malauguratamente abbiano circolato in queste affollate Anteprime toscane...let's keep calm and drink good wine!
