How does this clock work? ⤵️ This clock is located in the Villa Borghese park in a corner which seems like a fairytale 🤩It was made by a Dominican friar called Giovanni Battista Embriaco and installed here in 1873.🔸Embriaco was so passionate about clocks that he designed various and sophisticated mechanisms like this. How does this clock work? ⤵️The clock is located here due to the vicinity with a water cistern, which is used for the irrigation of the park. 🔸The abundance of running water makes this location perfect for a mechanism that entirely relies on water.🔸Water falls from above and fills the two leave-shaped bowls hanging on a pivot. By swinging alternatively, the two bowls activate the mechanism and the hands of the clock move.🔸Have you ever seen this incredible clock? Tell us! ⤵️

The first time Jesus was represented on the cross was only centuries after he was crucified..
The Church of Santa Sabina dates back to the 5th century and its portal survived all these centuries almost intact 🤯
On the portal you will find scenes of the Old and New Testament, including the very first representations of Jesus on the cross (that we know of)! 😮
For centuries, Christians did not make any visual representation of Jesus on the cross, because it felt like something really painful to remember.
Only 100 years after the legalization of Christianity by the emperor Constantine, one the first representation of Jesus on the cross appeared. Here on the portal of the church of Santa Sabina in Rome.
Until then, Christ was only represented in the moment of his resurrection and glory.
Something that today we take for granted like the cross, but that for long time did not exist!

The arch of light happens only few days per year, on September 4,5, 6 and April 6,7, 8. And only for a few minutes at 1PM!
The light effects in the Pantheon were a way for the emperor to prove how powerful he was, as he could even be in control of the sun!
Seeing this in person is pure magic ✨ Make sure you save these dates in the calendar if you’re going to be in Rome!
