On May 25, 1998, I had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with other renowned Italian Industrial / Experimental acts at the Rototom in Pordenone, during the inaugural "Post-Industrial Congress" organised by Old Europa Cafe, the first in a long series which is still happening today. I was booked to play a combined Amon / Never Known concert in a set list that also included performances by Sshe Retina Stimulants, Bad Sector, Iugula-Thor and Atrax Morgue. The cream of Italian 1990s Industrial bonanza, if I'm allowed to say that. That night I had the chance to meet Marco Corbelli for the first time: unlike many of the other participants, I had never been in touch with him before. I clearly remember the look in his eyes, bright with a spark of both genius and madness. It wasn't easy to sustain it for long - at least for the shy guy I was then - there was something intimidating into it, as a latent threat or as if he might explode at any moment. And that is exactly what happened later during his performance - where he presented his side project, Mörder Machine, and the tracks he had recently recorded for the debut CD "DeathShow" - although on that occasion his eyes were hidden behind dark glasses. As he walked the stage, apparently calm, the energy exuded by his voice and the backing tracks was palpable and vibrant, as both the video shooted that night, and the audio recording released years later on the "Atrax Morgue's Mörder Machine" box set, testify. "I'm So": well, he was. As part of my contribution to this due reissue of Atrax Morgue's "Negative Frequencies", I am also glad to provide some pictures taken by my best friend Pietro Falagiani - who took care of documenting the whole happening - during the Mörder Machine performance at the Rototom. They were retrieved recently from my archives and digitised especially for this release. This is the first time they have been published. From liner notes by Andrea Marutti

This tape, now legendary, served as portals into Corbelli's inner world, inviting the brave-hearted to partake in his journey through the shadows. In each sonic composition, Corbelli's meticulous craftsmanship was evident, transforming sound into an avenue for emotional resonance and visceral introspection. The symbiotic relationship between Kranivm and Slaughter Productions not only solidified Corbelli's place in the annals of industrial music but also set the stage for an enduring exploration of sound that resonates to this day.

Before the monumental impact of MZ 412, "Crematorius" emerged as a groundbreaking endeavor that hinted at the industrial mastery that Henrik Nordvargr Björkk would later achieve. As one of the earliest industrial-oriented projects in his repertoire, "Crematorius" showcases the young artist's experimental spirit and his unyielding determination to sculpt soundscapes that transcend time.

Immerse yourself in the mysterious and haunting world of "Megaptera," a captivating music project that pushes the boundaries of industrial and dark ambient genres. Initiated by Peter Nyström alongside Mikael Svensson, "Megaptera" embarked on a sonic journey into the heart of darkness, where atmospheric textures and chilling soundscapes intertwine.
At the core of "Megaptera" lies an intricate fusion of industrial rhythms, unsettling textures, and atmospheric layers. Each composition is a sonic voyage, transporting the audience to realms where the borders between reality and imagination blur. The music possesses an uncanny ability to evoke emotions that are rarely explored, creating an intense and immersive experience for those who dare to listen.

Step into the enigmatic world of Morthond, a captivating music project that took shape during the winter of 1990 under the creative guidance of the singular talent, BJ Nilsen. Morthond isn't confined by genre labels; instead, it's a canvas where experimental soundscapes, dark atmospheres, and ambient textures converge to create an immersive auditory experience.
Morthond's music defies easy categorization, and that's precisely where its allure lies. It dances at the crossroads of experimental, ambient, and dark genres, creating soundscapes that evoke contemplation and provoke the imagination. BJ Nilsen's craftsmanship lies in his ability to orchestrate sounds that immerse listeners in a realm where emotions intertwine with auditory perceptions.

Dive into the enigmatic world of raison d'être, a mesmerizing music project masterminded by the Swedish composer and sound artist, Peter Andersson. Renowned for his profound ability to conjure immersive auditory landscapes, Andersson's raison d'être has left an indelible mark on the ambient and dark-industrial genres.
At the core of "raison d'être" lies a philosophy deeply intertwined with the exploration of existential themes and the mysteries of human consciousness. Since its inception in the early '90s, the project has evolved into a sonic odyssey that ventures beyond traditional musical boundaries. With a name derived from the French phrase meaning "reason to be," raison d'être delves into the realms of emotions, thoughts, and experiences that often remain unspoken.

Step into a time capsule of industrial experimentation with "Crematorius," an elusive music project created by the visionary Henrik Nordvargr Björkk. Recorded on a portable four-track in 1987, "Crematorius" captures a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the early creative explorations of one of the genre's most influential figures. This project predates even the formation of the iconic black industrial group MZ 412, offering a unique perspective on Björkk's artistic evolution.

My relationship to the Repo album started in 2003, when I came to Tokyo for the first time. I had invited Mikawa to a performance we did with Jazzkammer. Since it was a weeknight Mikawa came straight to the venue dressed in his work-clothes, suit and tie, working in a bank he looked like the many salary men you’d see on the streets of Tokyo. His posture did not betray this image, but then he reached into his suitcase and pulled out the newly released CD reissue of Repo on Jojo Hiroshige’s Alchemy Records. He said, “This is my first album. New CD edition.”. The original vinyl edition from 1989 was only done in 300 copies and was virtually impossible to get, there was no Discogs or Ebay in the ‘90s, and I imagine most copies sold in Japan around the time of release. It had become something of rarity. On my next trip to Japan I managed to find a second hand copy of the vinyl in Shinjuku at a Disk Union store. It is a much-cherished record, and as good as the CD sounds it’s an album that works really well on the LP format, two side-long tracks perfectly balanced, so I was pleased when I heard that Urashima 34 years later once again is making Repo available on vinyl. On a personal level I was even more excited when I was asked to master this new edition.

Repo is a special album in the Incapacitants catalogue. Although Mikawa had started the project years before, it was only documented in tiny cassette editions on his own Pariah Tapes label. Yet Repo absolutely sounds like Incapacitants. It’s clear that Mikawa’s intentions for the project was defined at a very early stage (confirmed with the recent reissues of his old cassette works), and that the addition of Fumio Kosakai was an extension of this vision. And by great luck he found someone who matched his ideas perfectly. In that sense Repo is a both a debut as well as a transitional album. Both a first strong statement and a springboard to what was to follow.

Incapacitants - Repo LP (1989)

In 2001, this album was reissued on CD, and now it is being reissued on LP by Urashima in Italy. The original LP format brings back the feeling of the original release. Vinyl seems to be a worldwide boom right now, but regardless of that, this LP reissue should be enjoyed purely for what it is.
From new liner notes by Toshiji Mikawa

Will be released early this summer with a new incredible mastering by Lasse Marhaug. One of the best (in my opinion) five noise albums ever - I wouldn't know what to add for the other four vacancies, but Repo is a lock!

Special thanks to Toshiji, JOJO, Lasse, Osamu and Masahiko.

When it comes to Japanese noise, few projects have pushed boundaries or risen to a more iconic status than Merzbow. The mutant child of punk and experimental music, the project’s blistering sounds - as singular and wild as they are unique - are among the movement’s most important, definitive statements, continuously laying the groundwork for countless artists who have followed in its wake. Cloud C**k OO Grand marks a new era for Merzbow, the first of many CDs that will go in the direction we’d see in the ’90s. It is also the first time that this seminal document from Merzbow’s '90s period has ever appeared on vinyl. Composed and performed on synthesizers, metal devices, noise electronics and string instruments, all recorded at extreme volumes, Cloud C**k OO Grand’s five tracks present an enthralling sonic assault, deeply driven by the presence of electronic sounds, played against the sparse interjections of Akita’s heavily processed strings, that push toward new territories of the extreme, while subtly nodding toward historical gestures from the early years of the avant-garde. On the double vinyl, the tracks are not only remastered by Merzbow, but are recontextualized and open up a new sense of his studio experimentation at the time. (Original handmade collage enlargement detail by Masami Akita 1989 circa - this not included in release)

Traveling through the winding and jagged grooves of modified noise guitar, we come across Highdrophobia. Recorded and mixed in September 1986 and released the following month on cassette on Fatagaga Tapes FTC-08 in an extremely limited edition, this rare gem finally rear its ugly head in a new analog version on 12" vinyl. With his stunning modified guitar, Solmania uses tape, radio, metal, turntable and vocals creating three incredible sound tracks of wild noise madness, offering the listener an excellent overview of his music’s development. From side A single session, with its gumtree-shaking shimmer and mottled chords, through to the wildly sophisticated free noise sculpting of side B, divided into two tracks, where a horse-galloping guitar figure transform and uplift it from standard to something deeply original. A sublime, noisy effort of left field DIY minimalism constructed from recurring guitar pieces, vocal and a peppering of diverse object as turntables, radio and invisible effects, Highdrophobia illuminates a hidden but remarkable legacy of a great performer at the begin of his creativity and consciousness in the mid of the 80s.
Reissued for the first time ever on vinyl in just 199 copies with completely new artwork by the artist himself on reverse cardboard sleeve plus 12” insert, Highdrophobia is a masterpiece of guitar drone, its dense harmonics and overtones induce trance-like states, providing one of the most creatively thrilling, immersive experiences that we can call to mind.

Inner Mind Mystique, released for the first time in 1996, includes seven studio recordings are making full use skillfully editing how to edit cut-up, in which elaborate lump-sum making has been performed with the effects, burbling electro noises, high-pitched twees, and other sci-fi sounds, erupting out to drown out the screams, as if to make full use of the ancestral vocal sound. With the ''harshtronics'' , the extensive set of pedals that is used by Masonna to filter vocal and feedbacks, are surpassed all extremes with a full frequency violence that is as fast as it was psychedelic. Everything is scraped, cosmic and beautiful and focuses an electrically overcharged universe, punctuating the thrilling and vocal sonorous power with some quite moments and brief interruptions, conferring a very particular dynamic to work. Each pieces display a vast array of electronic sound events meticulously sequenced to a complex vocal fusion symbolizing the entire spectrum of earthly and heavenly sounds. Dynamic extremes evoke a restless flight through space, or through the depths of human subconsciousness, between dream and reality. Ultimately the noise disappears, like a dot in the sky gradually fading into nothingness - an "ascension" that closes the loop in a ritual of life that can begin anew again at any time.
Reissued as a deluxe vinyl edition of 299 copies, with A3 poster and cardboard insert, faithfully reproducing every aspect of the original 1996 release on Release Entertainment. Truly stunning and historically monumental within the genre, it can’t be missed by any fan of Japanese experimental music and noise.

Marco Corbelli’s artistic journey began in the early 90’s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in a very limited edition. The first was “The pleasure agony”, followed by “Sick” and “Murders”. Desires, pleasures, hate, and disgust are laid out and displayed for us to inspect. The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that will follow Marco Corbelli throughout his artistic career: sa**sm, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly death.

In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, Marco Corbelli began his musical activities creating the legendary Slaughter Productions label and the extremely impressive Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian Power Electronics act The Sodality, with their 1987 LP “Beyond Unknown Pleasures’’ and from projects as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape “In search of death’’ which will be followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the following years, printed on own label. Imbued with abstraction and the bristling tension of death and noise, its subtle structures and intertwining harmonics immerse the mind in a deeply organic and hallucinatory realm that places Marco Corbelli at forefront of the field.

Tape after tape, from degeneration to degeneration, with the sole help of an analog synthesizer Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, a microphone connected with a Yamaha multi-effect, tape decks and a mixer, Marco Corbelli blows up emotions and delusions, cutting out the hard way inspired portraits of phobias and deviation. With this minimal equipment Marco has created all his shocking early cassettes, always characterized by his cold, sick and querulous synthetizer; pitch perfect for the industrial movement into which he first emerged. These aspects of his practice are particularly drawn into the light by the main manifesto of Atrax Morgue - the analysis of the death, his perfection and complete habituation: injections of death to continue to live!

Beautifully brilliant, profoundly ambitious and crucial in constructing a more inclusive vision of Atrax Morgue’s deep, extensive work , “From degeneration to degeneration” box set represents an absolute approach to the industrial and noise scene in the nineteens. The putrescence is palpable, and one could almost smell and taste the miasma of decay that pervades the entire box. Anxiety, alienation and hypochondria turn into a deep paranoia in pain. Without hesitation, the bodies are emptied, leaving the field to an electronics purulence of rare power disconcerting. The psychopathological sound is white, painful and horrific; creates a mental alteration that initiates brutal operation of psychic surgery, neuroses and split personality. Crosses terrifying rooms lit by neon lights, corridors filled with gruesome tools, machines of blood and bits of human tissue floating in jars of formalin. The hum of the synth, the roar of noise and fights razor are often repeated loops, where each track has a compact structure, following the main theme (of death). An absolute triumph and essential on every count for fans of Industrial and synth / experimental music and a hallucinatory and intense set of finely tuned and tectonic form pieces, and a must too for anyone even remotely interested in any form of sustained sounds and their impact on the mind.
