Torniamo sullo splendido lavoro a nome Better Corners, il trio formato da Valentina Magaletti Drummer, Sarah Register e Matthew Simms, e sugli ultimi album di Actress e di Shabazz Palaces, ci perdiamo nelle volute del clarinetto reinventato e trasformato da Xexa e nei suoni ingarbugliati di Mestre André e ascoltiamo un assaggio dalle nuove uscite a nome Aisha Devi e Klein.
Musiche liminali, notturne, spettrali, da colonna sonora, attraversano la seconda parte di Battiti di stanotte. Fotogrammi desertici, lunari, talvolta allucinati con le melodie sotterranee dell’esordio dei Sons of Viljems, le chitarre infestate dai fantasmi dei Dead Bandit su Quindi Records e le spirali (no) dub dei Trans Upper Egypt.

Quindi welcomes German composer Baldruin to its roster of artists with a new album to be announced in early September.

Since 2009 Johannes Schebler has began mapping out his surreal sonic topography.
Shortly after releasing his first experimental compositions on SicSic, his albums began circulating on labels all over Europe as well as in the USA and Japan.

Growing up in a small Bavarian village, where his family had moved to for his fathers work as a pastoral officer, young Johannes lived in the rectory attached to the church where the loud resonance of the bells, lush organ sounds and chorales of singing churchgoers where constantly present in his childhood. The alluring atmospheres enticed him and he spent several years serving as a altar boy. These early spiritual experiences are a foundation for Baldruin’s sound. In his teenage years, he was exposed to transcendental and dreamlike visions in surreal and avant-garde films which he obsessed over.
Schebler’s compositions offer reinterpretations of dark and mystic mythologies, a chance meeting with strange beings from unknown depths conjured in his imagination where he gives free rein to the fantastic and surreal.

Among his most striking recent works are the albums for important labels of the contemporary experimental scene such as Lullabies for Insomniacs, Mappa, Buh and Cosima Pitz.

Besides his own project, Schebler collaborates with Jani Hirvonen (Uton) as Grykë Pyje, with Hirvonen and Paul Wilson (f. ampism) as Yayoba, releasing on the American Not Not Fun, and with Christian Schoppik (Brannten Schnüre) as Freundliche Kreisel, releasing an album a couple of years ago on Belgian label STROOM.

In this next work you will be able to savour Baldruin’s most delicate and romantic compositional side, sealing a long-awaited return of the Italian label to an electronic ambient sound that had distinguished it in the first issues of its catalogue.

Matching breezy, Bossa nova-tinged sophistication with softly spiralling psychedelia, Testbild! arrive in the Quindi lounge as though they’ve always been there. On their new release, the mini album Bed Stilt, the Swedish collective cast their attention back to the earlier days of their 25-year trip through sweetly mysterious pop-not-pop rendered in warm tones and shot through with surrealism. Along the way, their music has touched on chamber pop, post-punk and modern jazz with the elaborate harmonies and catchy songwriting and charm of the Canterbury scene.
The tracks which make up Bed Stilt were track recorded in Malmö back in the mid- 00s, lying in wait for the right opportunity to be brought to light with some delicate overdubs and finishing flourishes in the here and now. Musically, Testbild! stay true to their idiosyncratic approach on Bed Stilt with six immaculately rendered sojourns through lilting harmonies and brushed rhythms, feeling nostalgic but beguiling in equal measure. Theirs is a luxurious sound, not least on the opening strains of ‘The First New Years Eve,’ which purrs to life draped in silky Rhodes and chiming vibes. The finger-picking delicacy and languid harmonica of ‘Streams’ strike a pastoral mood neatly countered by the elegant slide into dislocated ambience for the track’s final stretch. By contrast, ‘And Her Eyes Are Red’ surges with a big beat urgency which plays beautifully with the mellow jazziness of the chord sequences, boldly toying with song structure to dart down curious tangents without losing the immediate impulse of a great pop record. Somewhere in this tension between clarity and chaos we can understand the addictive charm of Testbild! — a band steeped in the considerable craft of making accomplished and unconventional music so very easy to sink into.

After being completely in love with his latest albums under the Sternpost moniker, Quindi warmly welcomes Petter Herbertsson’s band Testbild! in its artists’ roster! A new record that will see the light at the end of this summer will be very soon announced. For the more unprepared, here’s some info about this fantastic, long time active band, and, by the way check their amazing discography:

Being the brainchild of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Petter Herbertsson, the art pop concept Testbild! started at the end of the 1990’s. It has never been really fair to call it a proper “band”, instead you could say it’s more like a music collective or an idea centered around creative thinking and thematic sound processes. As there are no fixed rules, it’s also quite unclear who the members are - although Petter H occurs in most of the musical projects (but by all means not all of them). Some other names of significance: Siri af Burén, Katja Ekman, Rikard Heberling, Douglas Holmquist, Mattias Nihlén and Petter Samuelsson, just to mention a few. Over the years, every Testbild! release has been a concept in itself, with various themes like Russian space dogs, the writer Isabelle Eberhardt, abandoned houses, surrealist underwater stories or their Swedish hometown of Malmö. And the music has of course gone through various phases since the beginning, but always elusive in its character, not belonging to any specific genre or tradition (though if you’re into things like chamber pop, Canterbury, rock in opposition, obscure post punk, modern jazz, field recordings and sound experiments you’ll most likely find stuff to cherish). Over 25 years and 10 albums later, Testbild! is still alive.

"If this were any other band, I would drive myself crazy wondering why they would allow such an mesmerizing and wonderfully weird album to languish unheard, but baffling choices were basically the norm for Nový Svět. In any case, this album rules and I am thrilled to finally get to hear it...While I certainly expected to dig this album, I was still very pleasantly surprised by how thoroughly it exceeded my expectations. For one, I didn't even know that this album existed until Quindi stepped up to finally give it a proper release."

After having finished recordings for “Desde Infiernos De Flores”, Nový Svět immediately began putting down new songs for a follow-up album, which they planned to finalize benefitting from time won by releasing “Desde Infiernos De Flores” in slices (of CD EPs) over a period of some months.

J. Weber’s and Frl. Tost’s return to an earlier life in their hometown Vienna brought a new deck of cards into play and those by then already mixed new pieces, rumored to circle around all things dream and sleep and (waking up in) nightmares, suddenly were regarded as “too spanish”, hence “inappropriate” for release. Instead in late 2007 surprisingly a synth-only album named “Todas Las Últimas Cosas” (“All the last things”), accompanied by a collection of early demos entitled “Todas Las Primeras Cosas”, was announced by the acclaimed german label Treue Um Treue / Reue Um Reue.

During the following seven years it took Nový Svět to present their next album “Mono”, tons of unreleased music were made available on various formats. But none of the tracks being abandoned in 2007 showed up.

Years after their making those recordings were saved from a disintegrating master and compiled for the album “DeGenerazione”, which when it much later showed up online caught the attention of Quindi Records, now making the album available for the first time on the intended LP format, presenting a missing link in the Austrians’ discography and the final part of a musical triptych, the so-called Spanish Trilogy, a reflection on transition, begun with “Fin.Finito.Infinito” back in Vienna, where it now would also find an end.

Although noisy and rhythmic in parts, “DeGenerazione” closes the passage of Nový Svět’s exile on an overall introspective note. It stands as a document of a band at the point of implosion, another dark hole - in a story full of them - illuminated and evidence that J. Weber’s Spanish did not improve a bit. Not even living there. A triumph of the will.

FD Marinetti presto ospite di The Magic Sugarcube su Contatto Radio - Popolare Network

Born in Turin and based in Toronto, has been playing in underground bands within various subterranean communities for the last twenty years. Adopting the nom de guerre , he self-released the Desire cassette in 2020, which was quickly followed with Memory’s Fool (Soft Abuse/Bobo Integral) in 2022 and the Desire LP (Second Spring), also 2022. The third Fortunato Durutti Marinetti album is titled Eight Waves In Search Of An Ocean and it arrives November 2023 via Quindi Records and Soft Abuse.

Colussi draws inspiration from the restless, explorative spirit of 1970s songwriters such as Robert Wyatt, Annette Peacock and Lou Reed -- artists more committed to the spirit of their own individual expression than to genre tropes.

Working with producer Sandro Perri, the intention with Eight Waves In Search Of An Ocean was to pursue an organic-hybridity in which synthesizers, saxophones and violins coalesce into an unified whole. On first single “Clerk Of Oblivion,” fretless bass brings a smooth funkiness to the rigidity of a vintage drum machine rhythm. On the epic opening track “Lighting On A Sunny Day” oscillating synthesizer tones pulse and sweep alongside violins and treated saxophone. “I Need You More” closes out the record on a breaking wave of dubby, decaying grandeur and features a massive flute solo. Each of these eight songs is a world unto itself, a vista to explore. Always changing but always familiar, Eight Waves In Search Of An Ocean continues Colussi’s exploration of what he calls “poetic jazz rock” -- a musical form of his own invention which is not poetry, not jazz and doesn’t really rock. Nonetheless, this is poetic jazz rock to the core.
