On International Human Rights Day, 10 December, SFT will be screening “Leaving Fear Behind” a documentary filmed in Tibet in 2008 by Dhondup Wangchen and Golok Jigme ahead of the Beijing Olympics. Both of them were later detained and imprisoned by the Chinese government.

The film depicts interviews of ordinary Tibetan people sharing their views on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government.

The screening will be followed by Q&A, and a discussion with Dhondup Wangchen, filmmaker, and human rights defender. We request supporters and Tibetans to join us!

Six Tibetan writers, activists sentenced by China on ‘state security’ charges

The six were sentenced in September in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture after being held incommunicado for from one to two years following their arrests.
Sentenced by the Kardze People’s Court were Gangkye Drupa Kyab, a writer and former schoolteacher now serving a 14-year prison term; Seynam, a writer and environmental activist given a 6-year term; and Gangbu Yudrum, a political activist now serving a 7-year term.

Also sentenced by the court in Kardze were Tsering Dolma, a political activist given eight years; Pema Rinchen, a writer given four years; and Samdup, a political activist now serving an 8-year term.

Tibet : One Tibetan man among a group of five has reportedly been killed by Chinese authorities in Serthar County , in connection to organizing religious activities,One of the detainees has been killed during detention due to excessive bleeding during a torture session.
Chinese authorities arrested Chugdar, Gelo, Tsedo, Bhamo and Kori from Khakor Township in Kardze Tibet Autonomous Prefecture on August 24. The family of Chugdar, 52, was informed by the police that he had died in detention two days after the arrest.
