****

We're frozen solid this winter ... and that's probably
why I haven't been posting! Someone finally threw some rock
salt on me and chipped me off of the frozen ground. Thanks!
This wonderful vinyl only release from Misty Lane Records out of
Italy, really isn't complete, but has the makings of several more
volumes! (hint hint) It features a variety of small local labels of
the music of the 60's, and is a natural extension of the
Ace Records compilations:
Rockin' In Wisconsin-The Cuca Records Story Volume 3,
Elemental Instrumentals-Instrumental Rock From Cuca Records
1959-1965, and the wonderful Garagemental!-The Cuca Records
Story Volume 2 (also on Ace Records) It seems like the labels from Italy and the UK are the only ones releasing music like this, sadly.
But what the heck, someone like us!
We music fanatic Wisconsin-ites have known about this music for years! We have the singles, and that was the only way to have this music. But no one's taken it the the next level by releasing it,on compilations, until import labels made it cool. Thanks! Finally Wisconsin music has a chance to shine! It's just as odd as any other state's garage musical history, and Badger Beat Chronicles is just another example of the fine music that comes from our fair state.
Many of the bands were also featured prominently on other
compilations (vinyl only) on two particular volumes of
Highs In The Mid 60's-Wisconsin Volumes 10 and 15.
You'll hear the other singles,on Highs In The Mid-60's like the Faros(doing a blazing garage R & B workout version of Please,Please What's The Matter)with an awesome guitar freakout that runs crazy until the song finally fades, like it can't go on anymore. Pure teenage insanity. They don't make music like that anymore...and I wish they did. It's raw and real. I encourage you to seek out those vinyl editions, and give them a spin. Otherwise, stay tuned here! I'll do my best to present it. These are all important pieces of the music puzzle you must own or at least hear, because if you're already reading this, you're interested! But, back to Badger Beat Chronicles; you're going to get music from bands who might have only released one or two singles on their own labels, or a friend's label, or if they were lucky Cuca Records. Who were able to distribute a little better than the smaller home made labels.
The only other way you could distribute your singles was just by
live shows, and maybe giving a local DJ a copy, to play. And you
had to play the larger cities, in order to get your singles heard.
Talk about do-it-yourself! The punks weren't the first to invent it!
So this wonderful vinyl edition compiles singles-some A sides
and maybe an odd B-side for us, and is, perhaps the only way you're going to hear this music, and their cosmic yelps.
Just because you've never heard of these bands, doesn't mean they don't rock, and they aren't cool. Give it a chance, and you'll be a garage music fanatic like me. I hope to see more of these type of compilations, so this unheard music can be heard across
the world, putting Wisconsin rock music on the map. Though
this is surely obscure garage music, it rocks and is unforgettable.

Nederbeat craze!!!
"Silver Girls And Indian Pipes" LP
https://teensoundrecords.bandcamp.com/album/v-a-silver-girls-indian-pipes

The very best of Penny Wise/Amsterdam and Peter Bewley.
In the history of the Nederbeat genre the band Penny Wise is simply legendary. Their story begins in 1967. Former members Donald and Martin van Os grow up in the western part of Amsterdam. Their first group, So What, plays a lot in the Amsterdam beat clubs, sometimes opening up for Dutch major Beat groups such as The Motions and The Golden Earrings. So What’s manager André Heilbron works as a roadie for Amsterdam’s #1 group The Outsiders and then the group comes under the wings of the famous impresario John B. van Setten. “Silver Girl” and “Jackie’s S.S.S.” appear on their first single. Penny Wise presents itself – both in sound and fashion - as a very exuberant British mod group. “Silver Girl” is nowadays rated among connoisseurs as one of the best and most exciting examples of Dutch 60’s Freakbeat.
“Lily Come Near Me” is in a much more poppier vein - a very strong composition with great melodies and splendid vocals, one of the band’s hallmarks. Penny Wise’s final 45, “Leave Me Alone”, another lite-psych pop masterpiece, and its flipside “In The Fields With Me”, a quirky Kinks/Ray Davies style pop follows. By the end of 1969 they change their name in Amsterdam. The idea to name themselves after their hometown was “inspired” by the American group Chicago. Amsterdam’s debut 45, the Freakbeat “Blue Steel 45” and the atmospheric laid-back “Indian Pipe” is out in 1970 and gets a lot of airplay. Another song from their catalogue compiled hereby is the melodic West-Coast styled “Lucy Lucy”.
Former member Peter van Asten leaves the band early 1971. Under the pseudonym of Peter Bewley he releases three 45’s of which his first “It’s Allright Bill” b/w “Smile Again”, a beautiful strongly Beatles-inspired pop 2-sider, is his best and most successful one. Peter plays guitar, bass, piano, organ and is doin’ the lead vocals.
It’s 1975 when Amsterdam’s first album is released and the band actually no longer exists. It’s a collection of their Pink Elephant single sides complemented with four songs recorded earlier.
As a tribute to our beloved Amsterdam city we chose Alessandra Monoriti’s colorful illustration for the cover which perfectly fits in the music compiled in this record. Lovers of Nederbeat, Dutch-Baroque-Pop and lite Pop-Psych will surely fill this record between their genre’s faves. Thanks to Dutch music export Erik Meinen this selection is now available again with such a rich and detailed liner notes insert. It was about time these songs would be rediscovered and newly presented in all their splendor. We sure hope you’ll like them as much as we do!

18 U.K. 60s/70s Psych Mod Marvels

The latest in a long line of compilation albums arranged from a decidedly psychedelic pop-rock and mod-prog perspective. All in all 18 U.K. 60s and 70s psych marvels mastered from the original singles. Plenty of new-to-the-ear sounds will both engage and insinuate: Billy Fury, Rodney Bewes, Peter Nelson, Wayne Fontana, Gracious and The Cardboard Orchestra. From the label that launched the now classic "Stasera Shake!" volumes and released fine compilations like "La Discotheque Psychedelique", "Holding A Dream" e "Mondo Girls". Limited to 300 units, with photos, detailed bands/records informations and a full eye-catching artwork, "Jigsaw Puzzle" contains 18 obscure U.K. 60/70s Psych marvels compiled by dj Max Savana. It’s a full immersion in the Swingin’ London sounds with tracks that range from Pop-Psych to acid Groovy 45s spinned in the hippest Mod clubs, passing through more popular personalities like Billy Fury, Wayne Fontana and the TV celebrity Rodney Bewes." “There are some absolute mind-blowers here, plus, somewhat surprisingly, a few under the radar smashers too. For out and out highlights check both sides of Legay’s 1968 Fontana masterpiece, No One and The Fantastic Story Of The Steam Driven Banana, plus The Kytes’ Running In The Water. Elsewhere there’s enough to keep modern-day UFO types idiot dancing and grinning till the wee wee hours. Plenty of new-to-ear sounds will both engage and insinuate: Billy Fury, Rodney Bewes, Peter Nelson, Wayne Fontana, Gracious and The Cardboard Orchestra.
With this high level of quality control here’s hoping this one runs and runs”.

The Hangee V are one of the longest running Surf-Garage combo coming from Sardinia. This is their third, and, we dare to say, their best album to date. These hairy cavemen (and beautiful cave girl on drums!) have mastered thee perfect mix of reverb-drenched instro surf-meet Garage Punk you might have heard on vintage compilations like "Strumming' Mental" with the "Garage Punk Unknowns"/"Back from The Grave" obscure raw cuts from 1965/67 and gave 'em nothing but respect for the real attitude and crudeness. Mind you this ain't no lo-fi stuff coming from the latest bunch of inept players around. These guys KNOW how to play, and instead of evolving into any "modern" phase they're just better and better today at doing what they always loved, playing sixties Surf and Garage Punk. The attitude and the songwriting is brilliant than ever and they deliver their blast from the past like it's 1966 again. Fans of The Sardinian Surf-Garage Scene (Uninvited, Rippers etc...) and/or The Unclaimed / Attila And The Huns fear no more, there's a new album out, straight outta the grave!

THE THUNDERBEATS
"same"
(Teens 066) LP

original liner notes:
Delayed for about a good year this brilliant debut album finally deliver what's possibly the most exciting new garage punk band recordings early this decade. The Thunderbeats from Moskow offer a fine blend of mid sixties garage punk sounds straight from the classic Back From The Grave and Pebbles sixties garage compilations with an unusual personal creative approach that make'em so special. No average covers, only original composition that show how deeply these guys have been exposed to our beloved sounds and visions. Althou' they were just babies when the generations of 80's and 90's enthusiasts were bringing back the attention on the "garage" culture, the guys from Moskow have learned their lesson so well and put all their effort in the making of their first record. Recorded in an old fatiscent studio with vintage equipment, old tube amps and analog reverb units, the already brilliant material written by the band couldn't come out any better than this. If the front cover show a young act passing time in a cold Russian amusement park, be sure the sounds out of the grooves are as warm as their amp's tubes. Do not hesitate, if you're looking for the next big thing, the Thunderbeats are perfectly balanced. They're the 'newest old thing' the current garage scene this side of the ocean has to offer now.

17 Late 60s/Early 70s Trans-European Folky Funky & Pop-Sike
Tunes.

As suggested by the subtitle itself, this psychedelique dance
floor in between late Sixties and early Seventies presents a great
selection of Funky grooves, usually with at least slightly Progressive
touch to it, with just an occasional detour towards the Folky
or Pop-sike side of the matter.

These kind of a bit more conventional entries also happen to be
the best ones as well, featuring Tony Ritchie’s fuzzy blue-eyed
soul stomper Could You Really Live Without Her (released on
Miki Dallon’s Youngblood label), along with the pair of Gene Latter’s
The Old Iron Bell, or thee more progressively funky side of things, Roundhouse’s Alchemy Is Good For You and Electra Combo’s Uber Feur are both as groovily catchy as it gets within the genre, and the same goes for the Britsike-gone-danceabe-proggy post-Velvet Fogg combo The Ghost’s I’ve Got To Get To Know You and finally the Italian 1972 radio hit single Mister E. Jones by Nuova Idea gets pretty catchy as well, in spite of the just as progressive overtone.

Also included is an incredibly surprising cover of The (pre-Creation) Mark Four’s single side Work All Day, as done by the German band Tony Hendrik, sticking to the tune’s initial pop-artish mod vibe. Selection of the best 17 tracks from the original compilation out on CD only in 2007. Rare U.K. and European late Sixties/Early 70’s danceable PopSike, Acid Folk and Funky numbers for the first time on vinyl.

New fab vinyl mastering and updated liner notes and extra (previously unseen pictures added).
