MY FAVORITE THINGS
EXCELLENCE & PERFORMANCE
Issue No.4
on cover:
Gio Pastori, DEUS EX…IMAGO, 2024, paper-cut and digital collage.
“In a world where words often intertwine in a sea of noise, Gio Pastori brings silence to life, transforming emotions into colors and shapes. This month’s cover of My Favorite Things is not just an image, but an invitation to explore a mythology that blends harmoniously with creativity and grandeur. For Gio Pastori, Achilles becomes an icon immortalized with visual energy, a tribute to sporting tradition, but also a reflection of the pursuit of excellence and performance that defines the world of sports. A dynamic and painterly perspective that underscores the deep connection between art and movement, suggesting that, just as in ancient times, today the quest for perfection remains a universal ideal.”

“Pascali’s art was indeed arte povera, but it was full of desire, energy, and a desire to express oneself, to show oneself. A desire to laugh out loud, at everything. That lust for life that exploded like a long wave in post-war ItalyHe was bored at school. Today we might say ADHD, neuroatypical; once it was called being an artist, if one could. Poor academic results led him down the path of set design, and thus of a manual, artisanal, physical knowledge. During classes, he would draw submarines, and then when he got home, he would build them, thus abandoning scientific studies. In 1955, at the age of twenty, he moved from Puglia to Rome to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, particularly following the lessons of Toti Scialoja and beginning to experiment with materials, then as a student moving from set design to the world of advertising in all its forms, from copywriting to set design, from graphic design to photography and acting. His creativity found the most fertile ground to flourish in the years of economic boom. […]”

“At the time, I wanted to be a director. I even bought a very large book with summaries of all the librettos structured into small chapters, which I still have. It showed how to tell stories in a concentrated yet precise manner. I often tend to group my sculptures in the same space, to make them interact. In the exhibition How to explain the Sculptures to an Influencer? at Perrotin, I placed my works on a stage. Some interpreted it as a Commedia dell’Arte L platform, others as an Internet platform. It’s quite amusing to see how the same word takes on a dissimilar meaning from one world to another.”

“In 1968, Stevenson spent another period in Venice collaborating with Gino Cenedese in Murano to create glass sculptures: ‘One morning Signor Cenedese sense a strange boat to take me to Murano. It is called the MIO BEN. En route, i feel like the Ancient Mariner looking for exotic prizes of the sea. On a newspaper i make a drawing - the Sea Unicorn, symbolising the canna (famous pipe used to blow glass).”
After all this time, in 2024, the exhibition ‘Harold Stevenson’, the first monographic exhibition in Italy, opens thanks to Tommaso Calabro, concurrently with the preview of the 60th International Art Exhibition, Venice Art Biennale.
Discover Tommaso Calabro’s full interview about Harold Stevenson on our latest print issue, his relationship with the city of Venice and the inauguration of brand new headquarters of Tommaso Calabro Gallery in the Venetian lagoon, by Domenico Costantini.

“The majestic mansion that stands on Via Pontaccio, housing the offices of Kiton in Milan, is much more than an architectural structure. It is a symbol of continuity and rebirth, a tribute to history intertwined with art. In the past, this building, constructed in 1908 to house the headquarters of the Gondrand Transport Company, was the home of Maison Ferré. Today, after careful restoration and adaptation, fully respecting its original style, it retains its charm and grandeur thainks to a moral commitment made with the owning family. Yet, what truly makes it extraordinary are the works of art that adorn its spaces: creations by contemporary master including Mimmo Paladino and Francesco Clemente, leading
figures of the Italian Transavantgarde movement. These works not only enhance the environments but transform the palace into a place where tradition and modernity merge in a harmonious visual dialogue.
Each visit becomes a sensory and intellectual experience, a dive into authentic beauty that conveys a sense of gratitude towards those who
have preserved this treasure trove of beauty and culture. […]”

La Jeta is an interdisciplinary artistic group founded in Valencia in 2020. The project originated from Quaranta Marzo 2020, inspired by the Kolektiff group of the University of the Basque Country. It imitates their organizational form and aims to give space within the academic-university environment to the most underground scene. In 2021, after La Jeta, they published their first manifesto based on an exquisite co**se with phrases like “La Jeta is a kiss on the forehead after taking a s**t,” “I don’t want the Playstation 5,” or “we will s**t all over UPV.”

PARTS OF LIFE
Dismemberment of a person’s soul

BEARING WITNESS TO VIOLENCE featuring Susana Pilar on
Collectible DRY Issue 25
THE SHAPE OF LUXURY
The human body is able to store its experiences. The body physical memory is more durable than the person’s physiological one. I dare to suggest that bodily memory is the most genuine form of memory because it remains uninfluenced by social regulations, behaviors, or structures governing normal social conduct. The body lacks the consciousness to navigate such regulatory mechanisms. It has been proved scientifically that human body ? speaks ? by itself, even when life on this body ends, that is after death; to accomplish this it necessary to know how to decode the evident signs, scars, codes as well as to read them.
