We at Masterkey Sounds just released a Christmas song.. Another beauty by Markéta Irglová

Hope this song helps to bring you comfort and joy now that the holidays are getting near.

In the mids of working on her next solo record, a couple of film projects and preparing for the next round of Swell Season recording sessions, this song came to Marketa a couple of weeks ago. So we pushed everything aside for a week and got to work!

Very excited this one is finally coming out into the world.. Been planning this remake since the first tour I did with Marketa 10 years ago where she blew me away with her live version of If You Want Me. Over the years we have tweaked and finessed the performance and sound through performing it at every single live show until we finally got into the studio with it last year with some amazing musicians and the results are almost out of our hands to your ears 😊

Love this time of year ❤️

Last year we released this Christmas song. It is a story. Of a person alone on Christmas, having isolated themselves from the world.
They are having a conversation with their loved one who passed over the previous year. Someone who loved Christmas and embraced it whole heartedly each Christmas season, making it the magical time of year that it is.
To experience the advent without them feels like an impossible task, resulting in going to an unlikely place of refuge for this person-the church.
There, without fully realizing it, they connect with the spirit of the loved one, who shows them the world through its eyes and helps them see how precious and short a lifetime is, filling their heart with love and compassion, for themself and the rest of the world.
Reminding them, it is always with them, and that where it has gone they soon will follow, so as not to waste a single moment stuck in the past or wishing to die, taking for granted all the people and blessings in their life.
The church bells ring, the choir sings, and it feels as though each candle burns, and each person sings in celebration of this holy moment. There is a graceful feeling of closeness to God, strong enough to make them believe, even if only for this moment in time.
The seed has been planted, the heart has been opened and life awaits. 🕯️

When Marketa and I had just recently opened Masterkey Studios, we were visited by the brilliant Isabella Bretz and Rodrigo Lana. Meeting them both instantly felt like finally seeing friends that we’ve know for ages but haven’t seen in a long time. They performed for a small audience in our Live Room, songs that she had written for poems from 8 different Portuguese speaking countries. Her incredible voice and Rodrigo’s genius piano playing left a lasting presence in our hearts and within the Spirit of our studio. I had the pleasure of recording the performance and we did further work on 4 of the songs the next day. I had always hoped we would work together on more projects - and when Isabella got in touch with me to ask if I would master her upcoming album, I felt not just excited but immensely proud that she would even think of me for that, with all the much more brilliant choices of people she could have easily gotten to do it. I hope that the result is what she hoped for. Her collaboration with Rodrigo and Fernando Braga Campos, and all the musicians involved, has created this. I only helped give it the final polish. Thank you for including me dear Isabella.
I hope we get to see each other again soon and work on more music.
