Reflecting on the past year, marvaða’s second, we stand in awe of the extraordinary journey we’ve embarked upon. As a creative nebula under the visionary direction of our Artistic Director Arnbjörg María Danielsen, we brought to life RITUAL, a collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma (as part of his Our Common Nature initiative), Viktor Orri Árnason, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra to close this year’s Arctic Circle Assembly. Gyða’s Epicycle dazzled with an ensemble of exceptional musicians, while viibra delivered their debut album with a performance at Harpa’s Norðurljós. In addition, we introduced marvaða móments, a series of intimate celebrations held in our new space in Grandi that included CYBER’s release of SAD :’(.

What a year it’s been! 2024 was nothing short of electric. We kicked off with neonme’s mesmerizing cover of “Hvers vegan varst’ekki kyrr?”, setting the stage for a truly special year. In April, CYBER hit hard with “I Don’t Wanna Walk This Earth” featuring tatjana. May brought us two standout moments: Ultraflex’s “Say Goodbye” delivered a keyboard-driven anthem just in time for summer, while viibra made their grand debut with a bold, genre-defying album. CYBER kept the momentum going throughout the summer, teasing us with singles that led to the long-awaited release of SAD :’( in October. And amidst it all, Kónugló released her third single, Don’t Give Up ft. Rakel. The music, the moments, the energy—it’s all been magical.

Fond memories of our time in Snæfellsnes as part of RITUAL, our collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

On October 19, we closed this year’s Arctic Circle Assembly in Eldborg, Harpa. a ritualistic reconnecting with our potent, yet fragile environment. Snæfellsjökull glacier was a source of inspiration for the production and we gathered at its foothills for days of reflection and togetherness with artists, scientist… and a couple of curious seals.

Conceived by marvaða’s creative director Arnbjörg María Danielsen, with composer Viktor Orri Árnason and Yo-Yo Ma, accompanied with text by Andri Snær Magnason and ancient Icelandic poetry from Völuspá and Látra-Björg (1716-1787), we assembled in a sacred space of contemplation and urgency.
