Necessities and Grounds of Sahar Universal Network Formation
In the first decade of the twenty-first century, blatant hegemonic methods, such as the use of force and territorial expansion no longer apply. The increase of various mass media has made psychological warfare, via propaganda and persuasion the best method of aggression from without and the new 'fifth column' from
within, brainwashing citizens. Such media are able to pe*****te anywhere and everywhere, irrespective of national borders. Thus, the mass media has metamorphosed into the most effective weapon ever devised in both the political and economic arenas. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran which effectively ended much western-generated spin, the West had to revise its tactics. Therefore, the western media launched a subtle program of subliminal, psychological persuasion. Events were distorted, censored, misrepresented and spliced. There was only one way to effectively combat such an onslaught and that was also by the media. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Company policymakers set to work. The exterritorial department of IRIB, which has nearly sixty years of working experience in Iran's media realm, expanded its scope of operation. In 1376, IRIB began broadcasting according to the Persian calendar, an independent organization, named Sahar Universal Network was formed . Although in the same year, the infrastructure of broadcasting exterritorial television programs was set up with the start of broadcasting Arabic programs for the Arabic-speaking audience beyond borders, the declaration of the independent identity of Sahar Universal Network dates back to 1376. The Network's Mission and Aims
The mission and aims of Sahar Universal Network are as follows:
•To introduce the Islamic Revolution of Iran to foreign viewers as the most significant, influential uprising of the past century by explaining Islam's views on politics and independence as well as its rejection of oppression as opposed to the nations' acceptance of oppression. The introduction includes the historical, social and political background... the reasons why the revolution occurred and the means used to gain victory, as well as the personality and views of Imam Khomeini.
• To strengthen solidarity and create an atmosphere of trust and understanding between Iranian Muslims and other nations by showing Iranian society as it really is, thus negating unfavorable propaganda generated by the western media. To introduce the rich Iranian-Islamic culture, as well as the improvements and political, cultural, social and economic advances made by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
•To confront the influence of the non-Islamic culture in the world of Islam and reveal the hegemonic policies of the great powers, which wish to dominate the people and nations of the world.
•To inform and update world viewers on the news in Iran and the world at large, paying special attention to the Islamic world and liberal movements.
