Here's a riddle for you. There's a land which is regularly inundated during high tide. It is home to several bird species, including migrants all the way from Russia. It's also important for flood mitigation. The only way to keep this land dry is to build sluice gates that prevent that tidal inflow. What would you call such a land? Environmentalists, citizens, scientists are calling it a wetland. But CIDCO calls it agricultural land that can be used for construction.

The answer will determine whether Navi Mumbai loses more of its wetlands, finds out reporter .works What do you think?

In recent years, air quality in Mumbai has significantly declined, raising serious health and environmental concerns. Complex weather conditions, such as La Niña, along with emissions from local sources and pollutants from neighboring areas, are some of the reasons for the poor air quality.

Over the years, managing air quality within a city’s boundaries has been proven to have a limited impact only. Scientific evidence shows that pollution from one area can travel to other parts due to meteorological factors, impacting local air quality across regions. Citizen Journalists Sree Kumar Kumaraswamy and Laxman Singh write about a solution beyond city limits: an airshed-level governance framework.

And as our cities struggle to handle the devastating effects of climate change, these citizens need to be at the forefront of any climate action, write researchers Aravind Unni and Shalini Sinha.
