Wild Leopard Captured in Lakhipara Tea Garden by Forest Department

Banarhat, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal – April 17:
A wild leopard was successfully captured today in the Lakhipara Tea Garden, located in the Banarhat area of Jalpaiguri district. The animal was trapped in a cage set up by the Forest Department in Section 18 of the tea estate.

The trap cage had been strategically placed following repeated sightings of the leopard in the area, which had raised concern among local residents and tea garden workers. Forest officials confirmed that the animal is in good health and will be released into a suitable habitat after necessary medical check-ups.

The Forest Department continues to monitor the area to ensure the safety of both wildlife and the local population.

Agitated Elephant Attacks After JCB Driver’s Provocation in Damdim TE; Animal Left Severely Injured

Damdim TE witnessed a distressing incident where a wild elephant, seemingly agitated, attacked people after being provoked by a JCB driver. The situation took a tragic turn when the elephant, in a fit of distress, banged its head against the JCB’s front loader, sustaining a severe head injury.

Now, the injured elephant has been spotted standing motionless in one place, visibly in pain. Experts say that when wild animals experience deep physical suffering, their behavior can become erratic, often misunderstood as aggression.

According to sources, police authorities have seized the JCB involved in the incident.

Locals have expressed concern over the elephant’s condition, urging authorities to intervene and ensure proper medical attention. This incident raises serious questions about human-wildlife interactions and the need for responsible behavior when dealing with distressed animals.

Ratan Tata, the visionary who steered Tata Sons into a global powerhouse, has passed away at 86.

Birpara Police Intercept Container Carrying Foreign Ci******es Worth ₹82 Lakhs

Birpara, September 13, 2024 — Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Birpara Police, under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Nayan Das, successfully intercepted a container truck en route to Assam carrying a large consignment of foreign-brand ci******es.

The operation, carried out near the Power Grid in Birpara, led to the seizure of ci******es from renowned international brands such as Benson & Hedges (UK) and Mond (UAE). The market value of the contraband is estimated to be over ₹82 lakhs.

Police officers, with swift action, arrested the driver of the vehicle along with the seized goods. The police suspect the smuggled ci******es were being transported to Assam for illegal distribution. Further investigations are underway to uncover potential links to a larger smuggling network.

OC Nayan Das lauded his team for the success of the operation, emphasizing their commitment to tackling illegal smuggling activities in the region. The Birpara Police have ramped up security checks along key routes to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The arrested driver is currently in custody and will be produced in court soon, while authorities continue their investigation into the source of the illegal consignment.

Announcement: Voice of Birpara Members to Hold Dharna at Dalgaon Station

On 21st August 2024, from 9 AM onwards, members of Birpara will stage a Dharna at the Dalgaon station area to protest against the Dolomite siding at Birpara.

In preparation for this demonstration, a rally was held today across Birpara and its market area, inviting and urging local residents to join the Dharna. The protestors have united under the slogan, "Dolomite Hatao, Birpara Bachao!" (Remove Dolomite, Save Birpara).

Leopard killed in Road Accident Near Birpara on Asian Highway 48, Conservation Concerns Raised

On Saturday evening, around 7:30 PM, an adult male leopard was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle approximately 1 kilometer from Birpara on Asian Highway 48. The incident occurred in a known leopard crossing zone. Upon receiving the report, Birpara Police and the Forest Department promptly arrived at the scene and recovered the leopard's carcass.

This area is recognized as a leopard crossing zone, and vehicles are required to drive slowly to avoid such accidents. Last year, a similar incident occurred near the Garganda River bridge, where another speeding vehicle hit and killed a leopard. This area is particularly sensitive in terms of wildlife conservation, and such incidents are raising serious concerns.
