*J&K: 8 villages in Udhampur declared red zones*

Jammu: Eight villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur have been declared as red zones after it was found that 10 people from the district had attended the Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin, officials said on Wednesday.

They have been traced and sent to quarantine, officials said, adding that two of them have tested positive for COVID-19.

“After some people tested positive, Megani area and its surrounding villages have been declared as red zones,” District Magistrate of Udhampur, Piyush Singla said.

The villages include Kotli Paie, Chopra Shop, Rehambal, Megiyot, Rakh Sansu, More Duggar, Padam and Jib, he said.

“The entire area has been sealed and people have been asked not to make any movement,” he said.

Singla said nearly 100 health professionals have been sent to the area to trace those who may have come in contact with the ten people so that necessary action can be taken.

Udhampur district has been completely sealed and all entry and exit points have been blocked as per the directions, he said, adding only vehicles of essential services and some vehicles of SRTC will be allowed on the highway.(PTI)

Srinagar March 26 : The funeral of the 65-year-old businessman, the first person in Kashmir to succumb to coronavirus (COVID-19), the disease that has swept across the globe, took place on Thursday in north Kashmir’s Sopore town of Baramulla district.

An eyewitness said that at least 25 persons were allowed to participate in funeral prayers of the deceased which took place at his native village in Sopore near Guru petrol pump.

“His cask was carried in by men dressed in protective gear, while the relatives of the deceased wore masks,”he said.

Reports said that the deceased developed symptoms of pneumonia as soon as he returned from Delhi where he had attended a Tableegi Jamaat meeting.

They said that he was admitted to the hospital barely two days back. An established businessman, he is survived by three daughters and a son all settled.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, it is our duty to keep ourselves informed, take care of our own health, and wash our hands!

“Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others,” according to the advisory by the World Health Organisation (WHO). As long as we stay calm, take care of our health (for our sake and for others too), we will be okay.

According to the WHO and the advisory by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), following these protective and preventive measures is super important now:

Wash your hands regularly, once you’re back home, before you cook, and especially after you cough or sneeze. While hand sanitizers will help kill some viruses, doctors recommend washing hands as the most effective.

“Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Droplets spread virus.”

Our hands can pick up viruses, and can transmit it to our eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter our body.

Avoid large gatherings, self-quarantine, and maintaining your distance from someone who is coughing or sneezing, as much as possible.
This information is also available in Hindi here.

Majority of our workforce are daily wage labourers, people from the unorganised sector who do not have the privilege of working from home. We should make sure that our safety measures don’t forget them.

Here are some resources that the WHO and the MoHFW have created. This includes the ‘Do’s and Dont’s’ we should be following, helpline numbers, and more!

We’re taking extra care to make sure that on YKA, content on the coronavirus that is unsubstantiated, promotes myths or based on fake news are moderated, and only posts that are fact-checked are published.

Do take care, and reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Team YKA
