JAMMU, June 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government today appointed Dr Shariq Rashid Masoodi, currently Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology at SKIMS Soura, as the Dean of the Medical Faculty at SKIMS Soura. His appointment is effective from April 1, 2024, and will last until February 28, 2025, or until further orders, whichever comes first.

*Electricity fee increase should be withdrawn immediately* Nadeem Akbar Abbasi

Uri //June 24, 2024. A large number of social activists and people from uri and Boniyar participated in the uri Chalo call given by Beopar Mandal Uri and political activist Nadeem Akbar Abbasi against the Electricity Department in uri today.

They protested against the department and demanded an immediate withdrawal of the electricity fee increase.

Social Activist Lal Hussain Koli, said that from 300 to 1400 increased in bills.People are very poor here, unemployment is high and people cannot pay such huge fees. Do justice to the poor people, otherwise the poles and wires will be pulled down. We have no need for electricity.

Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, a social activist from Boniyar, said that we have succeeded in the call of Beopar Mandal uri and have come to register the protest against power Department with the uri Administration.
He said that the land is ours, the water is ours and electricity is provided round the clock in Delhi and we are facing cuts even in summer and the electricity fee has been increased by 600% in the last two years and people are being harassed for no reason. Yes, we do not accept this additional electricity charge and we will not pay the additional charge until this additional load is withdrawn and the additional charge is withdrawn.

Khalid Mehraj Lone, an other social activist from Boniyar , said that earlier we had to protest due to lack of electricity but unfortunately now we have to fight for additional fees as well and this is total injustice to the people of Uri and Boniyar.

Nadeem Akbar Abbasi, a political activist who gave the call for protest, while talking to the media persons said that we people take and bring our own transformers under self-help but the electricity department does not realize this. We warn the department that in three to four weeks If the excess electricity fee is withdrawn and our bills are not brought down from 300 to 500, the protest will be intensified.
After the assurance of Uri police, people ended the protest peacefully
