Pune: BJP’s Chandrakant Patil Retains Kothrud Constituency In Dominant Victory
Kothrud, 23rd November 2024: Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil, has comfortably secured the Kothrud constituency with a lead of over 80,000 votes. He was contesting against Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) candidate Chandrakant Mokate. Patil's victory was widely predicted, especially after former corporator Amol Balwadkar withdrew his candidacy and announced full support for him.
Kothrud, traditionally a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was considered an easy win, especially with Patil being fielded as the BJP candidate for the second consecutive time. Originally from Kolhapur, Patil first contested from Kothrud in 2019. Back then, aspiring candidates Dr Medha Manjrekar and Murlidhar Mohol were also in the fray, but Dr Manjrekar was appointed as a Rajya Sabha MP, and Murlidhar Mohol became the Pune MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation.
This time, Chandrakant Patil faced a brief challenge when Baner-based former corporator Amol Balwadkar demanded the candidacy. However, after discussions with Patil and BJP Maharashtra State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Balwadkar withdrew his demands, ensuring a smooth campaign for Patil.
Kothrud had a total of 4.31 lakh registered voters, with a voter turnout of 52.18%. Given the low turnout, a one-sided victory for Chandrakant Patil was widely anticipated, which he delivered with ease.

Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd November 2024: An externed criminal, along with two accomplices, brandished Koytas and created panic in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The trio was seen roaming the streets of Mohan Nagar in Chinchwad, reportedly searching for a man. Reports indicate that the man they were seeking had campaigned for an opposition candidate in the Pimpri Constituency ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, contrary to the trio's political affiliations.
The Pimpri Police Station has launched an investigation and is currently searching for the three individuals. However, the police have clarified that the motives behind the incident are personal, not political. A video of the incident has gone viral, with claims that the trio was targeting the man for supporting the opposing side in the elections. The video's release, just one day after polling and with results expected tomorrow, has sparked significant debate.
The three accused are absconding, and the man they were searching for is also missing. Police have stated that a case will be registered once the accused are apprehended. This public act has created a sense of fear among residents. While the administration strives for fair, peaceful, and fear-free elections, such incidents have raised concerns among locals.
Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadlag, in charge of the Pimpri Police Station, told Punekar News: “We have identified the accused and the man they were searching for. The trio is on the run, and we are also looking for the complainant to ensure his safety. This is a personal matter, not a political one, as revealed by the investigation.”
