NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Electronics and IT on Tuesday said that nearly 200 crore Aadhaar authentications were carried out in January 2023.
“Aadhaar holders have carried out over 9029.28 crore authentication transactions so far including 199.62 crore in January 2023 alone, indicative of the growth of digital economy in the country," the ministry said in a statement.
While a majority of the authentications transaction numbers were carried out by using biometric fingerprint, it is followed by demographic and OTP authentications. In the month of January, 135.53 crore biometric fingerprint-based authentications were carried out, an indication of its usage and utility in the daily lives of residents.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has already rolled out a new security mechanism for Aadhaar based fingerprint authentication. The artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) based security mechanism developed in-house is now using a combination of both finger minutiae and finger image to check the liveness of the finger print captured.
Whether it is e-KYC for identity verification, Aadhaar enabled DBT for direct fund transfer, AePS for last mile banking, or authentications, Aadhaar, the digital infrastructure of good governance, has been playing a key role in supporting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India, and enabling ease of living for residents.

Gurugram, Feb 28 (IANS): Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Tuesday disconnected three water connections due to non-payment of Rs 2.9 crore.
These include Vipul World Society - Sector 48, Mayfield Garden - Sector 51, and BPTP Countrywide Promoters Pvt Ltd in Sector 102, Gurugram.
"The above 3 licence holders have for a long period not cleared the water supply charges of GMDA for the bulk water supply provided to them by the Authority. Reminder notices have been issued thrice to the concerned builders but no action has been taken from their end.
"The Development Authority has now disconnected their water supply connections which will be resumed on the clearance of the dues. All the beneficiaries of water supply are requested to timely clear the water supply charges of the Authority to avoid any such disconnection of water supply to their colonies," said Abhinav Verma, Executive Engineer, GMDA.
Currently, GMDA has outstanding payments amounting to Rs 2.88 crore due from 40 licence holders in the city.
Vipul World has a pending amount of Rs 72 lakh while the dues of BPTP Countrywide amount to Rs 1 crore. Other colonisers with such high-value pending dues will soon be issued similar notices for clearance of water supply bills of GMDA.
At present, GMDA is supplying approximately 545-570 MLD of potable water to the city to meet the demands of the residents and further projects are being taken up to augment the water supply in the city shortly.

Children experiencing bad dreams and nightmares persistently may be at risk of developing cognitive impairment (including dementia) and Parkinson's disease in adulthood, finds a study.
Children who experience frequent nightmares at age 11 are twice as likely to develop symptoms of cognitive impairment, and seven times more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease by age 50. Summary: Children who experience frequent nightmares at age 11 are twice as likely to develop symptoms of cognitive impairment, and seven times more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease by age 50.

Can children’s dreams foretell events that will happen nearly 40 years into the future? Yes, according to the results of my latest study published in The Lancet’s eClinicalMedicine journal.
More specifically, it showed that children who experience regular bad dreams and nightmares between the ages of seven and 11, may be nearly twice as likely to develop cognitive impairment (the core feature of dementia) by the time they reach age 50. And they may be up to seven times more likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease by age 50.
For some background to these startling findings, in 2022 I discovered that middle-aged and older adults who experience frequent bad dreams and nightmares could be more than twice as likely to develop dementia or Parkinson’s in the future.
Given that a large proportion of people who experience regular nightmares as adults also report having had regular nightmares when they were children, this made me wonder whether having lots of bad dreams during childhood might predict the development of dementia or Parkinson’s disease later in life.
To find out, I used data from the well-known 1958 British birth cohort study, which follows the lives of all children born in England, Scotland and Wales during the week of March 3–9, 1958.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi was left stunted when Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested after eight hours of questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the Delhi liquor scam case. Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in relation to the alleged corruption and bribery reports linked with the liquor excise policy introduced in the national capital in 2021. Meanwhile, AAP leaders and party workers have claimed that the charges against Sisodia are false, and are part of a conspiracy by the Centre and BJP.
However, both Manish Sisodia and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had predicted that the AAP leader will be going to jail for seven to eight months in relation to the Delhi liquor scam, alleging that BJP has hatched a conspiracy against the Delhi government. It must be noted that the Delhi cabinet ministers are not paid for their posts, but are given a salary as an MLA or MLC in the national capital. Since Manish Sisodia is an MLA in Delhi, his monthly salary must be around Rs 50,000. This means that the yearly salary of Sisodia as a part of the Delhi government is Rs 6,00,000. Meanwhile, media reports claim that his total net worth and assets are around Rs 93 lakhs.
Charges against Manish Sisodia by CBI-
The CBI has leveled corruption and bribery charges against Manish Sisodia in the Delhi liquor scam case, which the AAP leader has denied. Earlier, CBI had registered a case of bribery and cheating in the new excise policy, but the case was later shelved.
CBI had previously raided the offices and house of Manish Sisodia, after which the AAP lea
