While weather watchers are predicting a wet for Chennaiites this year, fireworks vendors are adapting by stocking up on water-friendly crackers that sparkle even in a drizzle. A few vendors across Chennai share what’s trending this season...

Compared to last year, production is slightly down this time due to fire accidents in Sivakasi. This has also led to a rise in prices and demand.

: Guardian angel Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) swaps Arj’s (Aziz Ansari) miserable life with that of the wealthy Jeff (Seth Rogen), hoping to teach him that riches don’t always bring happiness. But when Arj refuses to switch back, Gabriel is stripped of his angel wings and sent to Earth to live as a human as punishment. The comedy is about how the three stumble through their new realities. Writer-director and lead actor Aziz Ansari gives this familiar trope a fresh spin. Unlike most in this genre, this film neither romanticises hardships nor reveals a hidden darkness behind the riches. Beneath the humour lies a commentary on the modern gig economy. Keanu Reeves is endearing as the “dum-dum angel” with tiny wings. Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen impress with their comic timing

: As Gabby (Laila Lockhart Kraner) goes to Cat Francisco with her grandma Gigi (Gloria Estefan), her beloved dollhouse and its resident Gabby Cats end up with a crazy cat lady, Vera (Kristen Wiig). Gabby goes on an adventure to bring the dollhouse back. Based on the series Gabby’s Dollhouse, Ryan Crego’s live-action animated musical fantasy comedy is purely a kiddie fest. Adults might find this a bit too sugary and over-the-top. The story remains simple and easy to follow, and the narrative moves smoothly between live action and animation. Gloria Estefan is warm and endearing as Gigi, while Laila Lockhart Kraner embodies Gabby perfectly. Kristen Wiig is a riot as the haughty Vera, and Jason Mantzoukas shines as Chumsley, voicing the plush toy, Chumsley

is a quiet, gentle rom-com about love, family and cultural expectations. Sometimes it lands beautifully—in little moments where characters hesitate, smile awkwardly, or share a small joke. Other times, it feels careful, almost too polite, sticking to familiar rom-com formulas. The story follows Naveen (Karan Soni), a reserved Indian-American doctor, who meets Jay Kurundkar (Jonathan Groff), a playful photographer raised by Indian adoptive parents. Performances carry much of the film’s weight. Karan Soni’s tender Naveen, Jonathan Groff’s warm Jay, and the parental duo Zarna Garg and Harish Patel bring authenticity and heart
