On episode 12 of the Chinese Food Series, we visited Songhai at Waterloo Street, one of Kolkata’s oldest Chinese restaurants with a legacy dating back to the early 1950s. It has been a cherished destination across generations – from grandparents to grandchildren.

In its early years, Songhai was a popular lunch spot for British-Indian bureaucrats, lawyers, and office-goers in Dalhousie. The space still holds on to its original charm with the red lanterns, Kori Borga or wooden panels supported ceiling and that unmistakable old Calcutta Restaurant feel.

Many Calcutta folks first fell in love with Chinese food at this place and they still swear by it.
The flavours here have remained consistent, resisting modern reinvention to protect their heritage. Signature dishes like Drums of Heaven and Bamboo Fish are still made the same way they were decades ago.

With Over 10,000 Reviews & a 4.1 star rating on Google, Bachan’s Dhaba is one of the more popular Punjabi Dhabas of Kolkata who have actually maintained their quality & taste over the years.

Although it took a long time coming for me, I was mighty impressed with this place. From the quantity to quality & taste, they ticked most boxes.

I ordered a tandoori chicken, egg tadka, palak paneer & chicken bharta. Barring the bharta, everything else scored near full marks. No excessive butter & oil, no unnecessary over cooking, just good ingredients with the right amount of heat & sundry.

Will give this place a 4.4/5 👍🏻

On episode 7 of the Office Para Bar series we visited Green Palace Bar & Restaurant and tried their signature items like Beetroot Tikki, Diamond Fish, Tilapia Fingers, Chicken Prasenjit alongside some signature Cocktails like Juhu Kala Khatta & Spicy Margarita.
This place is 40 years old & very popular among locals for their good & service.

Located inside a 118 Year Old Chinese Club, Rated 4.5 with close to 2500 reviews on Google, Sei Vui already ticked some boxes even before we entered.
Was mighty impressed with their Soup & Starters, not so much the main courses.
